Hi.

I was just wondering where Andrew was before he came home. I can't find anything saying that anywhere. And is there poof that he as really there?

It's just that I had a bizarre idea that Andrew's murder could, possibly have been an imitation of Abby's murder (though I know the chances are against it). That would mean that Andrew was a possible suspect for Abby's murder. I know it's unlikely, but I would like to see the proof that they were killed by the same person, and/or that Andrew had an alabi for the time of Abby's murder.

Thanks,

Hannah

Hannah, dear (I love that name), if you scroll down to "Where the devil was Andrew, anyway?" I'll think you'll see that's a subject under current discussion.

And welcome!

Welcome Hannah!

The details of Andrew's wherabouts before he came home are in Appendix E of Leonard Rebello's book Lizzie Borden: Past and Present. (check out the Privy for a note on that).

ANDREW J. BORDEN'S LAST WALK IN LIFE AUGUST 4, 1892

[1] Andrew left to go downtown-- Lizzie's inquest testimony
[2] barber shop-- Peter Leduc reportedly shaved Andrew Borden the morning of August 4, 1892. The shop was located at 5 Main Street above Wood & Hall's. (Fall River Daily Herald, August 4, 1892)
[3] Post Office-- Lizzie asked about mail; reportedly Andrew walked to the Post Office to retrieve the mail. (Lizzie's Iinquest testimony)
[4] Union Savings Bank-- 3 Market Square (Preliminary Hearing: 29)
[5] National Bank-- 3 Market Square (Preliminary Hearing: 30)
[6] First National Bank-- 58 North Main Street (Preliminary Hearing: 29)

[8] Clegg's Store-- 6 North Main, Richardson Building (Preliminary Hearing: 43:)
[9] Clegg's Store in process ... of re-modeling) -- 92 South Main Street (Trial: 173, 175)
[10] Andrew turned and walked up Second Street---Miss Mary Gallagher saw Andrew at the corner of South Main and north on Second and Spring  small package in his hand at 10: 15 a.m. (Preliminary Hearing: 10). Andrew Borden was seen by Edmund Whitehead on Spring Street. Preliminary Hearing: 43) Southard H. Miller was in Whitehead's Market and saw Andrew Borden turn onto spring Street (Fall River Weekly News, August 17, 1892:4). Mrs. Lizzie Gray observed Andrew Borden turning north on Second Street (Preliminary Hearing: 43).
[11] Andrew arrived home. He went to the north side of the house, turned home around  and was seen going to the front door.

Note: Union Savings Bank and the Fall River National Bank were both in the same building. B.M.C. Durfee Safe & Trust Company were in the same room as the First National Bank.

(For a moment I thought this thread was going to be about Andrew's habit of dumping the contents of his slop jar in the back yard.)
On that other thread, referenced by BobG, I raised the question of exactly what time Andrew left the house. That would have to do with whether Andrew had an alibi for the time of Abby's death.  There seems to be some question about the time of his departure.  We also have no way of knowing exactly what time Abby died, so we may never know whether Andrew had an "alibi" (assuming he needed one).
Oh, and welcome to the Forum!

Since Andy was in possession of his faculties, we may ASSUME that he left the house before Abby was whacked. Or he would have heard somthing and investigated. Ditto for Lizzie being in the back cellar and too busy to hear anything. The clip-clops from the horses in the streets, the grumbling and creaking of the wagons could blot out any noise. My assumption, but you may disagree - and you will!

Welcome Hannah, that is interesting to question if it
was positively the same murderer, i've never heard anyone
else bring that up.  As for Andrew possibly knocking Abby
off, I don't see any motive or anything that would link
him..but interesting, keep thinking and sharing!

There is an interesting anamoly here.

All these references to the "Preliminary Hearing* in Rebello, are wrong.

These are references to the Witness Statements.  I didn't check ALL of these cites but enough to know whoever he got to assist him, or he himself? is in error here.
