Hosea Knowlton's wife, I believe, was an Almy.  Does anyone know if she was related to Andrew's friend and partner?

Knowlton Papers Glossary A:

"KNOWLTON, SYLVIA BASSETT (ALMY) 1852 - 1937: born in New Bedford, Massachusetts, daughter of Benjamin and Sophia (Allen) Almy. A graduate of Bridgewater Normal School, she was employed as a teacher for a time in Westport, Massachusetts, prior to her marriage in 1873 to Hosea M. Knowlton. She had many public interests and was an organizer and second president of the New Bedford Woman's Club. In this capacity, she had the honor of introducing Winston Churchill when he lectured there on his experiences in the Boer War. She passed her later life at her summer home in Marion, Massachusetts, as well as in the Boston area. She was in Newton, Massachusetts, at the time of her death."

--daughter of Benjamin Almy, from New Bedford.  Good Luck!

Thanks, Kat.  I didn't know she was listed in the Knowlton Papers.

Have you seen her "summer home" in Marion?

I don't think so.  The one I saw was the one she and Hosea lived in during the trial.  I don't know how long they stayed there.  There are like three houses that he owned there.  It may have been one of those, but I don't know - it could have even been a totally different one.

It was such a thrill to see their house they lived in in 1893, tho.  I did not recognize it at first, because I had last seen it in a photo in a magazine article and it was white with black shutters.  When I went to FR last spring and FINALLY visited all the little Lizzie towns near there (Marion, Fairhaven, New Bedford, etc.)I looked up the house.  It's now yellow with black shutters.  Wish I coulda got inside to look but someone's living there.

The house next door to it is very historical, too.  It has a plaque posted, and last spring it was for sale.  They wanted about $750,000 for it.  I forget who the historical person was who had lived there.

Geraldo Rivera lives in Marion.  Someone gave me directions to his house.  They said he has a HUGE place there.  I didn't have time to look it up.  I wonder why Geraldo chose Marion of all the places to live.  Like, why not Martha's Vineyard or something?  Maybe for privacy?
