Boy, she must get some comments!!! I'm going to write to her to ask if she will sell me some used books so I can put them on e-bay as books belonging to Lizzie Borden.

I don't know. I have a feeling this should be in the Privy.
I don't think my grandmother would want her home info and phone # on an open Forum/
You should have her sign them!!
I found Lizzie Borden at the Burger King in Fall River in the cold and mist- it was a clean, well-lighted place to meet her friends. I am trying my new Photoshop! Experiment!
Oh, Lizzie! What those fries have done to your skin!
--Lyddie
Isn't it odd to think she could look like any teenager in any century if she had had a bad complexion?
Can you imagine dealing with Lizzie Borden as a cranky,
PMSing, pimply TEENAGER? <--- that is the "evil" smiley
In some ways I kinda think Lizzie would have felt more at home in our time than her own. I could see her going into the Fall River Burger King or McDonald's in that pink warm-up outfit and ordering a burger, fries and a medium Diet Coke, or ripping around town in her 2004 Mustang GT.
Hmmm, that might be a good thread of its own, if Lizzie could have any car to drive that she wanted, what would it be? I picture here in a BMW whilst Andrew was still alive and a Mercedes E Class afterwards.
What kind of car would Andy have chosen? What kind of cars
suit people who are too cheap to even have a toilet?

A blue-nosed mule with a case of the spavins
William has proven they did have a toilet- it just was in the basement.
Is that a fancy way of saying he would have driven a Taurus?
Is that the thing they always call the "indoor outhouse"
or is it something different/better?
Well....no it wasn't.
I picture Andrew driving a '71 Ford Pinto with no A/C, the original AM radio, the seats ripped all to hell and primer gray.
Come to think of it, that would have it easier for Lizzie to bump him off. All she would have to do is rent a U-Haul, wait for him and Abby to drive by, and just tap the car from behind and make the gas tank explode.
Yeah, I know...I have a twisted sense of humour.
Nahhh... I'll buy that
The image of Lizzie after the kaboom is priceless!!
I had a Taurus once. That was without a doubt the worst car
in the history of the world. It left me sitting on the side
of the road at least once a week. The best car I've ever had
is my truck, and then there was a little old Dodge Shadow & a
Chevy Corsica -- those two were excellent workhorses. The Dodge
was rear ended & the Corsica was repossessed. Those were sad days.

Makes me laugh, the Pinto and Tauraus were also the Worst cars
I've ever owned. I have been a Suburu faithful for past 15 years,
love my Suburu! I can picture Andrew buying a Pinto for Lizzie,
but she is more of a Lincoln Town Car kinda gal dont you think?
Andrew would still drive a Yugo. Can't you just picture him back when they sold them 2 for the price of one, switching cars back and forth to get them home, just like in the old commercials. And then, he grandly hands Abby the keys to hers, and poor Abby has to drive around wedged between seat and steering wheel--when the car runs. Lizzie might like a Jaguar--in Prussian Blue, of course! I picture Emma in a Lincoln Towncar.

Yeah, on second thought Andrew and Abby would get the matching Yugos. Abby's would be the one with the fried clutch. Emma would more be more at home in a Lincoln Town Car or more in keeping with her simple taste, a Ford Crown Victoria, Lizzie would certainly want something fast and flashy. She would outfit it with all the options, and a bumper sticker or license plate frame reading "SPOILED ROTTEN."
The mailman delivered Lizzie right to me today ! Well, actually it was my order from The Hatchet. I think it is great that the Lizzie puzzle and the Maplecroft puzzle are both printed in reverse. I am hoping to be able to order them printed "regular" as well...wouldn't the four of them make an interesting wall grouping ?
Let's see... we're leaving Bridget out here. Not fair! What about for her something like...say, a lime green VW Beetle convertible and - a specially-cut vanity license plate reading "SPOILED MUTTON"??
You know what? My neighbor drives a Pinto. He drives it
really slow for some reason. I'm not sure if that is as fast
as it goes or if it is as fast as he goes. It is also kind
of rickety sounding. For a little car it makes a big noise.
Sounds like it's ready for the salvage yard, or at least the engine probably is. For some reason, I get the feeling that one or more pistons is out of commission.
Try this one out...
Vanity plates a`la Borden
I tried ghosting an image of Lizzie on hers, but it did not look right.
Those vanity plates are great! A long time ago we came up with some license plates for Lizzie, I'll have to see if I can dig them up, they were pretty good.
I picture Andrew driving a smart, no-nonsense type of car like a Volvo, in basic black of course. Abby would be driving some type of beater car, like some old station wagon in brown or blue with coffin lights and that bad fake wood paneling. For some reason I picture Emma driving some classic car from the 1950s with a pastel two-tone paint job, with tail fins and lots of chrome. Bridget, hmmm. On her salary, I picture her having to take the bus or hitching a ride in Abby's beater. And of course, any car Lizzie would choose would have to be in candy apple red!
Lizzie's second car plates could read, "hakdoff"!
--Lyddie
Well, I thought it was funny!
--Lyddie
The perfect car for Emma...
would have to be this 1954 El Dorado convertible. Take a peek
That's really good!
Perfection!

hey..funny...not a bad idea either. lol
Doug, thats great! Can't ya' just picture our Miss Emma behind the wheel? Now the question is, do you think Emma would drive with a lead foot or waaaaay beneath the speed limit? Say 15 miles per hour in a 25?
I can see her chauffer driving that
Doug
Why do I picture Morgan Freeman as Emma's chauffer, Driving Miss Emma.
what a picture, love it!!
Doug
ooohh. smart...maybe it's a sequel to "Driving Miss Daisy"...i dunno. But I can picture Mr. Borden drive a run down car that hasn't been fixed for ages and is at least 20 years old.
I've never been able to picture Andrew driving anything but a spotless midnight-blue or black hearse limousine!! With white-walled tires
Doug
Whatever Andrew drove, he would keep it in EXCELLENT repair. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
I say Emma drove 15 mph with her turn signal blinking all the way down French St.
--Lyddie
I dunno Lyds... I still like the Driving Miss Emma idea
Doug
I tend to see Emma being the kind of driver that people with road rage would shoot at. When I read the post about her doing 15 mph with her turn signal on all the way down French Street, I thought, "Yep, that sounds about right!"
Lizzie, on the other hand, would have probably drove like she'd taken driver's training from Henri Paul. She'd get stopped so many times for speeding that every cop in Fall River would know her car better then his or her own.
Andrew and Abby would both drive pretty normal, except Andrew would stop to pick up any broken locks he found lying in the road.
And Bridget would spend her spare time trying to design an engine that would run on mutton broth.
"And Bridget would spend her spare time trying to design an engine that would run on mutton broth."
Because it was.. "sheeper" by the gallon??
Doug
Baaaaaaaaaahd, Doug65oh, very baaaaaahd.
Gramma
well, he is a cheapo type of guy...so we gotta be kinda realistic. lol
This too is true
And while I'm thinking of it, welcome to the bunch, deafandsmart
Doug
thank you. reason i said that was because if u think about it, he didn't want to spend the extra money on electricity, which meant that the ice box wasn't keeping the meats cold enough and in result they had food poisoning. He wouldn't even spend the money on toilets that ran water!
That actually crossed my mind too, although as I understand it, there was a water closet in the - in the cellar I believe it is. Still though, I have to wonder: You have a household (before the murders) consisting of 4 women including Bridget, and Andrew. Luxuries I suppose are just that, but to put a water closet in the basement - seems less than considerate to me.
Now I wonder: Did "water closet" have the same meaning in 1892 as it does today?
Something else, from Joseph Hyde's police report (at Witness Statements , p. 39):
"I said to Miss Russell, Miss Lizzie came down into the cellar alone after that time. Miss Russell said that could not be. I said, O, yes she did; it was about ten or fifteen minutes after you and she went up stairs. Miss Russell said that must have been while I was taking my bath."
A "bath"? A different meaning or intent is possible (as always) but Where was Alice Russel doin' the "Rubber Ducky tango"? Upstairs, downstairs? A sponge bath using a dry sink?

i think you may be onto something, doug...i hadn't thought of that....where did u find this information? That sounds a little squashy to me.
the link for the Witness Statements in pdf format, deafandsmart, is http://www.lizzieandrewborden.com/CrimeLibrary/WitnessStatements.htm
That passage is at p. 39, as I said.
Doug
The water closet was with running water as were the 2 sinks, one in the house, the other in the cellar. There was running water in the barn as well.
No gas, let alone electricity. I'm not sure when electricity came into homes and how much that would cost to install and paying for its use monthly or whenever. The trollys went electric, i believe, in 1892.
The housemates had those sink/wash stands. The bath would be in stages.

Q. Did you have occasion to go down stairs with Miss Lizzie that night?
A. Yes Sir.
Q. The first night?
A. Yes Sir.
Q. For some purpose connected with her sickness?
A. It was just wash water, water we had been using for bathing that
afternoon. She started to get it out of the wash bowls &c. I said “I will go down with that”. She says “I will go, if you will go and hold the lamp.” I went down with her, and she emptied it. Then she went into the laundry and rinsed out the pail. I stood at the door and held the lamp.
Q. Where was this?
A. Down cellar.
