1. "NEW FACES OF 1952 on DVD"

"Critic's Choice" has brought out a widescreen DVD of the legendary film of the NEW FACES (OF 1952) Broadway revue, containing the beloved number "Lizzie Borden (You Can't chop Your Poppa Up in Massachusetts)."
The color is faded, and the print is a little choppy (ha!) in some of the sketches, AND the second verse of the opening of the song was edited out (sloppily), presumably for time. Still it's great to see this spoof of both the classic musical OKLAHOMA! and the ballet FALL RIVER LEGEND (both of which were, of course, choreographed by Agnes de Mille - and her characteristic "American Primitive" moves are definitely grist for the mill here), especially in letterboxed, widescreen splendor.
I bought it at a noted theatrical shop here in NYC, but here's a link to the Critic's Choice website:

Thanks for the tip,Bob! I'll order my DVD tomorrow.

Recently Charles Osgood mentioned the song "You Can't Chop Your Poppa Up In Massachusetts" in one of his morning commentaries on CBS radio. His piece was not about Lizzie, though. I think it had to do with the on-going primary election season.
