In Speiring's book, it said that in order to get out of
the shoplifting charge, they had her write a confession
to the murders. Of course she wrote something to the effect
that she done the confession out of them doing that to
her. What do you think? Was it ever really found, or just
talked about. Is it real, or like all those cat stories,
all hearsay?

Edward Radin, author of "LB the Untold Story",
had a chapter where he proved that confession was a forgery.
The book should be read just for it.
Spiering treats the confession as "true", altho
his notes admit it was a forgery!

Ray's right, the story of Lizie being forced to sign a
confession to the murders is "made up."
The facts are that Lizzie settled the shoplifting charge
out of court. She's worth millions but she steals two
moderately priced paintings. Strange girl, our Lizzie.

I wasn't there to witness it, but maybe it was due to
a misunderstanding or something.
Was she banned from the store? That's what happens to
shoplifters in this area.

I wish she would have written a confession so that we
wouldn't have this terrible curiousity in our systems...but
then again what would all of us have to gossip and discuss
of?

I believe that Lizzie's confession lies in the poem inscribed
over the mantel of the fireplace in Maplecroft. Only my
interprettation of it, but I'm good at interpretting poetry
.

I was thinking last night that if only EMMA had died FIRST
(which SHOULD have been the "natural order of things",
being older), that we may then have heard some final word
from Lizzie on the subject of the crimes near to HER death.
As long as Emma was alive, Lizzie could not, in good conscience,
speak, or write of the tradgedy (in honor of Emma's "good
name" and loyalty).
And, of course, Emma would never have spoken, even had
she lived...
