Hey gang, on January 1, 2002, the History Channel is rerunning
a segment of History's Lost and Found that details the
whereabouts of "lizzie's Axe". It is on at 9
am and rebroadcast at 3 pm for all of you with premium
cable.

Thanks Stefani. Just caught the show.
They mentioned something that I never had neard before.
That Lizzie after the crimes, at sometime, chopped up
a bunch of firewood at the fireman's picnic using an axe
or hatchet. Anybody heard of that one or is it just another
false Lizzie item that the media repeats? Doesn't sound
right to me.

I've heard that before. I can't remember if it was that
show, which I've seen a few times, or read it. I've always
taken that as one of those gossipy stories that had no
basis in fact. Just my opinion.

I only remember the Pearson story about Lizzie offering
to take down a shed in the country for some little ladies
if they'd just get her a hatchet.
Can you give a review or synopsis of the segment?

Victoria Lincoln recollects the shed story too. Lizzie
was apparently visiting some friends and an old woodshed
was obstructing their view. The owner mentioned that she
would have to get "Mike" to tear the old shed
down (Burn this old dress)and Lizzie supposedly piped
up, "Never mind Mike, give me the ax"
Although it reeks of sensationalism, I can almost imagine
her saying it just to get a rise out of them. (But thats
probably just my own perception of her personality)

It was only about a 3 to 5 minute segment. Mr. Binette
and Prof. Ryckebusch were both in it. They discussed the
murders (nothing we all haven't heard) and a few photos
of Lizzie and the inside of the house. They actually got
the number of blows on Abby as 19. The voice over did
say the first one probably killed her though, which I
personally don't believe.
Only at the end of the segment did they say that the hatchet
head they showed all through the segment was probably
not part of the murder weapon.
It was interesting but not long enough.

"Nevermind, give me the axe and I'll do it".
So who says Lizzie didn't have a sense of humor? It still
sounds funny today. (But it depends upon the tone and
context; plain text can't tell this.)

Kash, don't you have a birthday near to Lizzie's?
You just might be the right person to comment on her personality
traits and / or sense of humor...(however subtract 100
years of sophistication.)
BTW: thanks Harry for the synopsis.

My "favorite story" about Lizzie.
When visiting friends one day, they complained about flies,
and had no fly swatter. Lizzie said she was so handy with
a hatchet she could kill one without harming the individual.
When a fly landed on a friend's head, she swatted the
fly.
"Oops, I did it again."
I would like to prove it with a videotape, but the batteries
went dead before this happened.
Hope you find this funny?

And how about this story:
After they moved to Second St Andy planted pear trees.
Lizzie, for personal reasons, grabbed a hatchet and chopped
down a couple of saplings.
When Andy came home he asked "who chopped down those
trees?" Lizzie looked down sullenly, then beamed
and brightened up: "I can't tell a lie, Maggie did
it." And so Maggie was let go; Lizzie resented her.
Andy was looking for an excuse since Abby surprised them
in the cellar. Poor Maggie became a girl of the streets.
