This site offers a fascinating timeline of the history
of criminal investigation.

Graph shows human blood and animal blood could NOT be
distinguished till 1901.
Also note, fingerprint breakthroughs early 1890's were
in EUROPE & South America. Not used here until LATER.

The testimony from the Trial (as per some books) says
they could distinguish between human and cows' blood by
the size of the corpuscles.
How accurate is that graph? Was is subject to a trial?

That timeline is just a short, incomplete guide, if you
can understand it. It says the "precepitin test"
was invented, NOT the distinguishing of human vs non-human
blood! It sounds like a simple mechanical test that did
not require a trained expert. Do NOT rely on this chart
alone!
For example, Earl Rogers was the first lawyer to use ballistics
in a US court (1903); already used in Germany and US Army.
Fingerprinting (like examinations for Civil Service) comes
from China; used for centuries to identify authors. And
used in India as well, where that Englishman found it.

I have over a dozen books on forensics and have posted
pertinent info on blood and fingerprinting from them ALONE
in the past. This cursory graph is sketchy, but compatible
with certain information that I highlighted in my post.
