Turns out the middle name of Marshal Rufus Hilliard is BASSETT.  Is he related to the Bassetts listed in Rebello, pg. 377?  (Sylvester or his son William Lewis Bassett)
Sylvester was the first husband of Peace (Borden) Bassett Borden, and they had one child, W.L..  William married but all 3 of their children died.  But it doesn't specify uncles etc...
I also can't figure out the "Borden" relationship....

In the Privy, where resides a supplemental Index to Mr. Rebello's fine work, he cites pg.148 for Rufus BARTLETT Hilliard.
In the FRHS letter from Mr. Martins, He cites Hilliard's middle name as BASSETT:  hence my question above.
It had just sunk in.
Everybody else just gives a middle initial.
It seems, if Michael Martins has all his papers, then he would probably be a better or more correct source...but I don't know for sure.
Just pointing out a discrepency--will leave it "out there.."
It first became interesting because of Bartlett PEARS, then it became interesting because of a possible relationship between the Marshal and the Borden case, as "personal" in some way: (like a conflict of interest?)as a "Bassett".

There's a 'Bassett Hound' - but no.  They're good at sniffing things out.

Bartlett Pears & Bassett Hounds...
Who needs Lizzie?
How come everyone knows how to make "those faces" except me?

Kat,
I checked with a couple of the genealogy websites and there is no connection (at least for now)for Hilliard in any of the Borden or Bassett lines.  I'll check out a couple more sources later.

Thank goodness we have someone who can "check genealogy web-sites"!
Did you read Hilliard's Bio. in Rebello, pg. 148?

PS:  Your "face" is beautiful!

Hi Kat,
Yes, I checked the Hilliard bio genealogy.  Not too close, however.  I've been one of those so-called family genealogists for lotsa years, so if you ever need to find about your own genealogy or of anyone in the Borden tree, give me a shout.  I'm in the process of loading the Borden data from a gedcom into Family Tree Maker, so we'll have another genealogy link pretty soon taht includes all the uncles, aunts, cousins, descendents and ancestors.

I sorta like the faces.  Really?  Don't you know how to make them?

Kat, when you post a response, on the left is a link to "smiley lookup" and "formatting codes"--that is how you do them. A nice pop up window opens that you can keep open while you pick one to do.

too fun!

hey Stef, for some reason my "smiley lookup" and :formatting codes" doesnt work. I click but nothing comes up. I think I deleted some Windows files by accident before and I've lost certain applications perhaps.

the smily lookup is a pop up window that opens over your currently opened window. Maybe you have this feature disabled in your browser preferences.
