Did y'all read the Morse stuff from the New Bedford Evening Standard in the Privy?
Seems that the Standard gave out the Mrs. Emery/Morse alibi as "Oh, he was leaving as Dr. Bowen was coming..thats how I fixed the time..." (paraphrased).".they didn't meet." (Supposedly from a Thursday night interview with Officer Medley, published Friday.)

On Saturday, the Standard reprinted a segment from the Fall River NEWS about that same time-leaving alibi.  This became:
"Oh, I asked him to stay to dinner, he said no.  He had trouble with the lock of the front door as he left.  Then I immediately got my hat and went and shopped for the dinner, checking the clock in the store..."  (paraphrased--that's how she *fixes the time* in THIS installment.)

This reminds me of Andrew having trouble at the front door on Thursday (Prelim.,pg19-20, Bridget).

Does it sound like Mrs. Emery is changing her story?  Suppossedly Mrs. Kingsley, from upstairs, confirms this account.

--Or do you think this reporter slept the day away and cribbed some info to make up some padding for a story?

Or the other way around?
That the NEWS got it right and the STANDARD got it wrong?  At least the NEWS gave Medley's notes and the tennant upstairs as back-up references...

What about where MORSE says:  I never borrowed A PENNY from Andrew?

What if he HAD borrowed or had had Andrew as *Silent Partner* in multiple enterprises, nothing on paper, mind--all within the family..word is your bond and all that..and the "reckoning" was coming that summer (during those 3 visits..June, July & August)...MOTIVE FOR MURDER?  I have often wondered about this....

I was always puzzled by that quote from Mrs. Emery saying Dr. Bowen came over as Morse was leaving.  Didn't she go into a little detail, saying her little girl was sick?  I don't see how Dr. Bowen had time to go over there and see the child.  And I can't recall Bowen mentioning it anywhere.  I frankly don't know what to think.  It's like when Morse first said he heard about the murders by a phone call at the Emery's.  And trying to spread a rumor that the cellar door was unlocked (that one I believe).

Andrew took great pride in saying he never borrowed anything.  But that wasn't completely true, was it?  There were one or two small loans he had taken out at one time.  Morse was supposed to be very much like Andrew - I think that's why they still remained friends after Sarah Borden's passing.  Maybe Morse thought that was a very admirable thing to not take any loans from anyone.  It could also be that Andrew had loaned Morse money but with Andrew gone, maybe there was no paper trail to prove it.

Rebello, pg.82:
"Dr. Bowen sent a telegram to Emma from The Western Union Telegraph Co. (2 Richard Borden Blk., corner of South Main and Pleasant Streets at 11:32 a.m. (cites Trial:330).  He walked across the street to BAKER'S DRUG STORE 3 South Main Street, corner of Pocasset Street) where he remained a few minutes (Cites Trial: 331-322 ?).  He returned to the Borden house at 11:40 am, where he was told Abby Borden was found murdered in the guest room. (Cites Trial: 322)."

Some people think this is when he *made a phone call*--why not, they probably had a phone?
