What a FIND, BOB!
Someone once warned us to check for the exact Wording of these items for sale.
Notice it doesn't say Lizzie painted the picture on the front, but Does state she *signed* it on the back, leaving out the word "love".
So I don't know what to think.  Could even be a different Lizzie.
Otherwise, the plate is beautiful....
also, thanks for the cool site link!

Thanks Bob, nice find.

I think that book was up for sale on eBay not too long ago. I remember thinking what could Lizzie want with such a subject.  Also, we were wondering what Lizzie's signature would sell for. Now we know at least one offer - $1,700.  I think that's a lot more than it went for on eBay.

The cleaver is like the Maplecroft ice pick they found.  No guarantee Lizzie ever even seen it much less touched it.

The gift to "Mama" is interesting. She was 24 at the time and it was still 3 years away from the Whitehead house incident so they may have been on good terms.  It's a rare glimpse of Lizzie at that age.

I am having trouble making a copy for myself of the jpg of this plate. I checked the source for the web page it is on and can see no fancy shmancy gizmo code that would make downloading the image to my computer a problem.

Has anybody been able to download the image? If so, could you email me a copy as an attachment. I would like just to have it on my home computer in my private lizze file.

many t hanks in advance.

I received the image so everybody can relax now! All is well in sunny 72 degree orlando (well it was when the sun was up at least). It was a most beautiful day today.

No, of course, the seller's NOT asserting Lizzie painted the thing - in my excitement (it was a dull day!), I jumped to an "erroneous opinion," as our friend Ray would say.

I kinda think it's hers. Just a hunch.

Some of the other galleries were interesting as well. One has a picture of Lizzie's signature with the $1,700 book that's for sale.

You can also get Ed Gein's meat cleaver. Wasn't he the basis for Norman Bates?

It's not so erronious an idea!  Young ladies WERE taught to paint on porcelain..and for all we know it could have been connect-the-dots pictures.
My warning was really to myself and other's who may not or didn't used to know to *watch the wording* carefully. Some are more expert at antique dealing and have the experience to know these things.  i was glad to learn this myself from Annette, a doll-dealer/collector.

Oh, ratz! gotta go clean 5 litter boxes....
Ah, come to think of it--they came from Fall River, yea, and their scratch marks seem to depict Maplecroft, yea, and once I've cleaned them I'll sell them, YEA! only NOt here, where everyone's in the *KNOW*!

Norman Bates, you are RIGHT, sir!  Novelist Bloch based his mother-lovin' slasher on the infamous Gein case.

I'm glad you guys brought that up, cause I hadn't read the case in SOoo LOOng, I forgot why there was supposed to be a similarity.  Tonight I re-read about the case, and it all becomes clear.  Thanks guys.
BTW:  the pictures of his "kills" hanging like deer-meat, from the rafters, in B/W of course, were the FIRST real crime photo's Stef and I ever SAW in a BOOK at the Bookstore--and THAT I'll never forget!!...they sure have relaxed the "censorship" since then!

Hey Bob, I betcha' Lizzie did too do that hand painted plate, and if so, its an important Bordenia artifact. It reminds me of that cup Lizzie gave to Abby in childhood, 1868 I believe?

. . . but if the plate is a hoax, u get the last laugh on me
