The lead artist for DC Comics, Rick Keene, created the attached drawing of "Elsie" Borden, the cow, in 1984 as an exercise in ink and brush.

DC Comics does Superman, Batman amongst others.

Yes, that is one evil looking cow!  I used to wonder if the Borden dairy was affiliated with the Borden family we all know and love, I assume that it is not.  But, wouldn't that be an interesting footnote in history?

Susan:
Back in 1939 the Borden Milk Company held a contest to name their latest trademark, a cow.  Alexander Woollcott, noted theater critic and wit of that period, submitted the name "Lizzie."  For obvious reasons he didn't win. Apparently the company believed "Elsie Borden" was a more appropriate and gentler name for their product than "Lizzie Borden," an alleged murderer.

Thanks for the info, Bill!  I had no idea!  Its kind of sad that today we still all know Elsie's husband, Elmer the bull, as in Elmer's glue.  But, outside of her picture on their cheese, I believe it is, she doesn't get much press.
