In my browsing I ran across this recipe
posted to another site by "Laurie" for sugar
cookies. The source of the recipe is indicated. I'm getting
hungry.
From: LAURIE467 3/31/01 8:52 am To: ALL (1
of 2) 1418.1 Many thanks to the Lizzie Borden
Bed & Breakfast Museum for sending me this recipe.
Thought I would share this with everyone:
4 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 heaping teaspoon orange peel
1 cup soft butter or margarine
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 egg
1/2 cup dairy sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
TOPPING:
1/4 cup sugar
1. Sift flour with baking powder, baking soda, salt, and
orange peel, set aside.
2. In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, and egg until light
and fluffy
3 Beat in sour cream and vanilla until smooth
4. Gradually add flour mixture, beating until well combined
5. Form dough into a ball. Wrap in waxed paper. Refrigerate
serval hours or overnight.
6. Divide dough into 4 parts. Refrigerate until ready
to roll out.
7. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375. Lightly grease cookie
sheet
8. On well-floured surface, roll dough one part at a time
1/4 inch thick
9. With floured cookie cutter, cut out cookies. Using
spatula, place 2 inches apart on prepared cookie sheet.
10. Sprinkle tops of cookies with sugar. Reroll trimmings
and cut
11. Bake 10-12 minutes, or until golden. Remove to wire
rack, coo.
Makes about 6 dozen moist sugar cookies.

Thanks for another great post, Harry.
These look like they'd be really good! They must
serve them at the B & B then? Is their breakfast
only what the Bordens really ate on August 4th?

They're touting their breakfast as "award-winning"
now, I think---that might preclude a Thursday Morning
Borden menu...

When I saw this cookie recipe I printed
it out so my wife could add it to her bookcase full of
recipe notes and cookbooks. Yesterday afternoon she prepared
a batch of these cookies. They are delicious!
We have yet to try the meatloaf cooked in water, however.

Dave, we have a cat with the appetite
of a small horse but very finicky about what she will
eat!
