For a glimpse of Lizzie's era you may want to visit this website. Cornell University has "The New England Magazine" page by page from 1886 to 1900. A search indicated nothing on Lizzie but it is interesting to see what was in magazines of that time.

Harry -- I really enjoyed that site.  At one point during my browsing I ended up on page 287 of the "Manufacturer and Builder" where they were reviewing new periodicals of the time.  One of the new magazines was called "The Magazine of New England History" [not to be confused with the New England Magazine, as I did for quite awhile]and the review said that the October 1892 issue of "The Magazine of New England History" contained extracts from the Friends' Records, Portsmouth, R.I. "relating to the Borden Family".

I realize that this may not refer to the Bordens we all know and love.  But the proximity of the date to the murders makes me wonder.  I went into various sites in an attempt to find either "The Magazine of New England History" or the Friends Records, Portsmouth, R.I., -- including the Library of Congress -- but had no luck.

Thanks so much for alerting us to these amazing venues!
