Thanks Kim.
There is a "Bristol" in Florida, this says, but
no Fall River.
But See item #5. It says Fall River named in the year
1978.
I clicked there but it is Bristol County so it is our Fall
River. I don't get it?

I just emailed them & asked what that
meant, if I get a
reply, I'll let you know.
I also checked, Tennessee is the home of the only town
named Bugscuffle.
And there are only two towns named Fly, in TN & Ohio.
My favorite town name is Rising Fawn, Georgia.
That sounds so pretty.

I know there's one in Wisconsin. Whenever
I do a search for Fall River items on eBay I run into a couple
of Wisconsin items.
You'd think it would be River Falls instead of Fall River.

The man who wrote back said he would be excluding
the
error from the next version of their geographic encyclopedia,
he was pretty cool about it.
It is still fun to check on the towns, I've already checked
Newmarket, and where else? Taunton, New Bedford, Marion,
and..................

I just did a telephone search under Yahoo
for Lizzie Borden and it came up with one name. Seems
there is a Lizzie Borden residing in Gwynn Oak, Maryland.
Of course the search only covers listed numbers.
Wonder if she's happy with her name.

There are tons of Marion's, and 7 Fairhaven's.
And most of the cities are listed as having been
named in the 1970`s.

Personally no, I'd have to get a new wardrobe.
Wonder if she's ever been to Fall River. She's probably heard
all the jokes a million times.

These "Lizzy's"
look pretty rough.

There is a place on the Housatonic River in
northwestern Connecticut called Falls Village. In September
1973 a gruesome and notorious murder occurred a few miles
away. It became known as the Peter Reilly case and remains
unsolved.

I had never heard of this case, so I looked
it up,
it is Lizzie-ish, isn't it?

Thanks you guys!
Is this all that is known?
I wonder where this guy is now.
Reminds me of the Moxley case.

I couldn't find very many sites about it,
I think it
sounds like quite a story. Most of the ones I found just
used it as a reference when talking about other cases.
I didn't search much, there might be a full story somewhere.

I know of two books that were written about
the Peter Reilly case. "A Death in Canaan" by Joan
Barthel was published in 1976 and "Guilty Until Proven
Innocent" by Donald S. Connery was published in 1977.
I think a TV movie based on "A Death in Canaan"
was also made, though quite a few years ago now. The reputations
of the state police, who handled the official investigation,
and the state's attorney who prosecuted were badly tarnished
by the Reilly case. I believe Peter Reilly, who is now in
his forties, still lives in Connecticut and sometimes speaks
to groups about his youthful experience with the criminal
justice system. And the last I knew the crime, which was the
brutal murder of Barbara Gibbons, Reilly's mother, has not
been solved.

Thanks Doug, I can't figure out why some murders
are
so talked about & others are somewhat unknown outside
of the area where it happened. Perhaps there will be a
Peter Reilly Society someday!

OH GOSH we read that book!
We've probably traded it 10 x over by now. Thanks for
the title, Death In Canaan. Our mom, dad, Stef and I
all read that in the 70's.

I know quite a bit about the Peter Reilly
case as it directly involves Arthur Miller, my "other"
hobby. It was Miller who paid for the private detective that
unearthed new evidence and got Peter a new trial. Plus, it
was Miller who publicly spoke out against the police for interrigating
Peter for something like 36 hours straight, which produced
his one and only "confession." Miller lives in Roxbury,
CT, and organized his celebrity/literary friends to help raise
money for Reilly's defense.
The case has never been solved because the police stopped
looking once they "had their man" and his "confession".
