I've been rereading the report of the preliminary hearing.  Dr. Chagnon's wife, Marienne, testified there about a noise that she heard the night before the murders.  It seemed to come from the fence that divided her yard from the Bordens', but it didn't bother the Chagnon dog, which remained on the piazza throughout.  Mme. Chagnon didn't seem to have the best command of English, and maybe she was a bit hard of hearing too:
Q. "What kind of a dog was it?"
A. "After eleven."
This is only one of a number of unintentionally funny answers given by witnesses at the various proceedings.

That's one of the lines that should be included in any re-make of a Lizzie movie.  I suppose Mrs. Chagnon was coached.  Maybe she was nervous and was ahead of herself.  One of Lizzie's ministers - I'm going to say Buck - was hard of hearing.  I love Dr. Dolan's answer in the Prelim. when asked what the walls were papered with:  "Paper."

I love all this stuff because it makes all the people involved "people" instead of just characters.

Knowlton asks Emma at the Inquest about her relatives in town:
"She married a Morse, of course?"

-that has always conjured up Mr. Ed for me...

Inquest, Lizzie, p.56:
Knowlton / Lizzie--

"Where was your sister Emma that day?
"What day?"

Here's one for you guys:

I thought my favorite NAME in the case was Lee Cleverly Lanza.

I still really go for that name, but I found another cool one:
Judge Blodgett's wife was named ROXIE BLODGETT!

I love it!  I'm fond of funny names.  My Dad claimed he had an old schoolmate named Densie Troublefield.  I once worked with people named Dental Capps and Emerald R. Blue.  Working in the Pentagon at the time was a Captain Strong Boozer.

True story. On the local radio station where I live, the former traffic reporter's name was Rhoda Block.

My favorite is from the Inquest. Morse is being questioned (I think this was mentioned before a while back):

A.  Mr. and Mrs. Borden and me sat there and talked half an hour probably, and Mrs. Borden retired. Mr. Borden and me probably sat there until about ten o'clock. He says "John, is it not about time we went to bed"? I says "it is about ten, isnt it?" "I think it is."
Q.  So you both went to bed together?
A.  No, he went up to ---
Q.  At the same time?
A.  Yes Sir.

I've read that before and found it strange, now that it was posted, I find it funny!  It does come across as if Uncle John was asked if they were going to sleep together!
