Thanks for the link, Harry.  *sigh*  Makes me want to be in Fall River to experience all these events that will be going on.

"All events will be videotaped and played on public access television.'
--Oh shite!  does this mean locally only?  Like close-circut or something?  did I *assume*?  what's it sound like to you?

Amazing that Fall River isn't nearly as old as most of the towns I've lived in.  Of course, the town was there 'way before 1803; it's really the name that's being celebrated.  --And this piece tells us who owns that "bird" letter of Lizzie's.  (It isn't accurately described, but I guess that's what they're talking about.)  It's apparently in private hands.  I hope the owner will leave it to the FRHS in his will (or donate it before).  I don't think that kind of thing should be in private hands.  That probably goes for the Buffalo Bill letter too.  Sounds as if it's going to be a great celebration.

Was that because it used to be called Quequechuan (?) after the river? Both the native american name (means falling river).

Yes.  There is still a river, but it runs underneath Rt 195.  I imagine that it empties out into the Taunton River.

Hello Mike!

The Town wasn't called Quequeshan (I think that's the spelling on my 1877 map?), as Ray implies, was it?
Wasn't it Freetown then Troy then Fallriver then Fall River?

I believe you are right - I am tired

I believe it was the name of the river running under the highway and that it means falling river, which is how the city eventually got its name...

Your post was fine. You specified the river.
Ray implied the town name--I wasn't confused by what you wrote, it was clear.
Thanks for responding.
Besides I only just read the article posted as link.
(Not that I haven't read some history's of the place but the article was *fresh*.)
