For you Rebello-less people, here is a short bio. of Dr. Dolan, and his picture from Porter's book.

Apparently he died early (too soon) and left the world 2 spinster daughters, himself...along with Andrew.  Also, I understand he was Irish?  as he was buried at St. Pat.'s?

Lizzie Borden Past and Present, Leonard Rebello, Al-Zach Press, Fall River, Mass., 1999, pg. 99+

"Profile: Dr. William Andrew Dolan (1858-1922) was born in Shirley, Massachusetts, July 28, 1858. He was the son of Andrew and Jane Dolan. His parents moved to Fall River when Dr. Dolan was a youngster. He attended the local schools in Fall River, graduated from St. Joseph's College in New York (1879), and the University of Pennsylvania in 1882 with a degree in medicine. Dr. Dolan practiced medicine in Fall River after graduation. He married Nellie B. Hussey of Fall River in 1883. When the Fall River Hospital was established, he was appointed to the medical staff. Dr. Dolan was instrumental in the founding of the Fall River Medical Society and was active in the Massachusetts Medical Society. He was medical examiner for the Third District Court in Bristol County, Massachusetts, at the time of the Borden murders. He testified at the preliminary hearing and trial of Miss Borden.

Dr. Dolan died suddenly at his residence in Fall River, October 1, 1922. He was survived by two daughters: the Misses Ellen B. C. Dolan and Mary A. Dolan, both teachers in Fall River, and two sons: Thomas Dolan of Boston, of the state registry of motor vehicles; and William A. Dolan, instructor in a vocational school for disabled veterans. Funeral services were held at St. Mary's Cathedral. Burial took place at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Fall River.

I would suggest a simple rule in doing "research" for this site.

Can the facts suggest the innocent or guilt of Lizzie (or anyone else)? If not, maybe you are wasting your limited time.

I do not expect ANYONE to be able to definitively prove guilt in a court of law; maybe not in the court of public opinion either.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I have unlimited time at the moment and I do like all the history surrounding the murders and finding out about different characters.

It's a shame that not everyone can have these commercial source books, like Hoffman or Rebello, or Knowlton Papers.
I find the background info, and what others post here as to their expertise and knowledge, to be endlessly fascinating.
Not any waste of time, by any means.
I also like to "share", and question, and dig like a terrier!
The interesting commonality between Andrew Borden & Dr. Dolan, who had his Hands in Andrew's insides, is that they both had spinster daughters.
Another interesting aspect was that Dolan was only 2 years older than Lizzie!
And just look at all he accomplished in his life, or rather, look at all he was allowed to accomplish!

No one knows what unusual piece of factual information, speculation or opinion will have something to do with the solving of the Borden murders.

Browsers on the forum need only to not read something if they find it doesn't interest them but if the item is posted then those who find relevancy in it have the opportunity to get something out of it. This is as true of the post on Dr. Dolan as it is of my thoughts on where might Abby have been before she went to her death in the guest room. Neither subject might give anyone an answer to the crimes but neither is either post a waste of time.

I thought this was a forum and not strictly a research site for academics so I for one am happy that different people post a variety of conversations.

Gee, Dr. Dolan is part of the Borden case.  So what if this doesn't "SOLVE" the case?  Who has to this date?  The characters in and around the Borden case give us so much.  Sometimes they give us bits of information about some of the main characters we'd never know otherwise.  Times were so different then.  I find anything I read about the different persons involved, or about the Victorian era, to be fascinating and to be a learning experience, to help me understand a little more what it might have been like back then in that place.  Each little piece actually could help to lead to a solution.

I don't think 64 was all that early to die back then.  I guess it depends on how you look at it.  Dying 'suddenly' - sounds like a heart attack.  Interesting that Dolan was so close in age to Lizzie.
Thanks for sharing, Kat.
