Prof. Starrs was on the local news here tonight, discussing the Laci Peterson case.  He seems very distinguished, tweedy and professorial.  He appears well-versed in the Peterson case and kept gently correcting the newswoman who was interviewing him.  She didn't have her facts quite straight.

Didn't you figure out he lives or works near you?
You should go interview him.
BTW:  I thought he was more flamboyant.  Don't suppose it was a *ringer*?

Oh, he both lives and works near me.  He lives in McLean, which is an adjacent suburb, and he works (if he's still working; he looks pretty old) at GWU, which isn't far away either.  Sometimes he sounds like such an old crab (in print) that I decided I wouldn't want to interview him, but last night he seemed more mild-mannered.  I had seen him earlier on a video, and he looked like the same guy, only older.
A few years back, Keith and I were in England, and someone was interviewing Cher on TV, but she looked NOTHING like Cher and didn't even sound much like her.  I thought, "Don't the Brits know this isn't Cher?"  However, it turned out she had just recovered from massive plastic surgery, which had altered her looks completely and must have affected her vocal cords too.  Who knew?
