You're right, Augusta!  I just got lost in the site for about like 2 hours.  Thanks for the link.

Thanks, good stuff!  We had an old "player piano" in our
dining room, hard to find those!  Our house was set up exactly
like Lizzies, floor plan exact!  I wonder why no Piano, nothing
for diversion for the girls but an ironing board?

I thought Lizzie had a piano as a younger girl.  She was interested in music but then became dis-interested (?).

I thought there was a piano in the parlour?
Where would I think I knew this from?
(What a convoluted sentence structure!)

I have looked through what I have and can't come up with
any piano in the house, no phonograph, nothing.  I bet Lizzie
and Emma didn't even have any dolls or games of any sort when
they were little.  Although they did go fishing?  I think the
lead sinkers alibi is very fishy!

I would think if Lizzie lost interest, they would get rid of the piano.  I thought I read that when she quit high school, she was going to get into the piano and it didn't last very long.

The Borden's did indeed have a piano. It was located in the parlor.

This is from Rebello, page 10:

"Her life was uneventful during the few years following her leaving school. She abandoned her piano music lessons because, although making encouraging progress, she conceived the idea that she was not destined to become a good musician."

Lincoln also refers to it in chapter 1, page 37 (paperback edition):

"However, there was an upright piano in the parlor which was only twenty years old; all young ladies were supposed to "play." But Lizzie never mastered it. Good works were her natural way to social recognition."

In Kent, discussing the differences between Lizzie and Emma, page 215:

"They were in no way alike. While Lizzie had attempted to play the ancient piano Andrew had installed in the parlor on Second Street, Emma had not."

There is a floor plan of the house showing a piano, although it's exact location in the parlor is not known:

I've always wondered what Kent's source was for Emma not playing the piano?  For some reason I get the impression that Emma would have made a great violinist, but, I don't know if that was considered a proper instrument for a young lady to play?

I'm glad to see the piano.  What is the title of the book
everyone keeps saying "Robello"?  I'd like to try to get
a copy.

"Rebello, Leonard. Lizzie Borden: Past and Present. Al-Zach Press, 1999.
Important work in Borden studies. The book is organized into topical chapters, including contemporary interests such as literary impressions of the Borden case and the interpretations of the facts in the performing arts."

--This citation is from the LAB Virtual Museum/ Library.
The Bibliography contained therein is the beating heart of the web-site.  It was the first original creation of Stefani and she actaully built a web-site around it.
I'd like to describe how to get there, if you don't mind, for everyone to have this info:

On the first page here at the Forum, at the top, but below the Arborwood logo, there says:
"Click here for the Lizzie Andrew Borden web site".

When you go there click on first page.
Then the second page comes up with all the listings of choices of where to go.
This Bibliography is considered a "Resource".
So click on "REsource" and it gives us not only this great listing but also cites to the articles and authors of the Lizzie Borden Quarterly.
Can't find an article in your quarterly?
Try this site!  It's great!

My LBQ'a are right behind me (and you just got all yours out again too, right nj?)  But I go to this place to find the issue before I ever go thumbing thru old issues.
(WHY?  Because if I went thumbing, I'd disappear for a week!)

Anyway, I believe the Rebello book is sold at the B&B, and the FRHS.
Here's the address to the Gift Shop section on the Museum/Library, for more info:
Thanks for asking!

Put a posting up in the Second Hand Shop on this website.  Check eBay.  And re-check Amazon.com often.  Not long ago I saw a copy on there for less than the published price.
