Homeopathy in the 1890s
Patent medicines of the 1890s included ingredients which modern medicine has since deemed poisonous and addictive. Substances like cocaine, laudanum, and arsenic were considered curative in their day. Over-the-counter medicines like these were the common treatment for many ailments, including nausea, constipation, stomach aches, dizziness, headaches, and general aches and pains.
