Lizzie Letter to Frances Willard

I just noticed the story about a new Lizzie letter discovered that was written to Frances Willard. I was very excited to see the letter, as Frances is from my hometown! Did I read somewhere that a women's Christian Temperance group was renting an office in a building of Andrew's? I thought I also read (think it was in a New York Times Article from 1893) that Lizzie ultimately became irritated with this particular group when they ceased being nice to her after the trial, and she told them to leave the building. But in the "new" letter she seems to have very warm feelings toward Frances. I always say "Hi, Frances" when we park next to her house on the way to visit the public library.

The letter you are referring to, is dated July 23, 1893, a little over a month after Lizzie’s acquittal. These two women had never met, so the warm feelings that Lizzie displayed in this letter was in appreciation for a letter of support she had received from Frances Willard and Willard’s British counterpart, Lady Henry Somerset. At the time that Lizzie wrote this letter, Frances was the national president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.

A little less than a year after Lizzie wrote the letter to Frances Willard, she did turn out 20 members of the local branch of the Young Women’s Christen Temperance Union, who were renting a room at in the Andrew J. Borden building, because she felt she should not put up with insults from her tenants.
