a set up?

Post by snokkums »

I know that Andrew Borden wasn't a very well liked man so this might sound like weird question. But does anyone think that Lizzie was set up because of it? It might explain why she was aquitted, even though all the evidence was pointing to her.

Who would have set her up? A disgruntled tenant? Business associate? Hmmm, I don't know. To me, after all the years of wrangling with this mystery, I always come back to Occams Razor. The simplest explanation is usually correct. Who had motive, means and opportunity? Lizzie. Who was home with the victims? Lizzie. Who's alibi was the weakest? Lizzie.

If someone hated Andrew enough to kill both him AND his wife, why wouldn't that perpetrator come back to finish off his two daughters as well?

As difficult as it is for me to figure out HOW she managed to keep herself free from blood spatter, or how she managed not to crack and confess under the strain of 10 months of imprisonment, I still think that at the end of the day, it was Lizzie, and only Lizzie who did this.

Snokkums, who do you suggest set her up? I can't see an intruder entering the house, murdering Abby, waiting around an hour and a half in order to murder Andrew, and then leave the premises without being detected. Furthermore, why would an intruder, who is angry at Andrew, kill Abby? Why not kill Lizzie as well, since she was present in the house at the time Abby was killed?

Lizzie's alibi for when her father was murder was pretty lame, but she didn't even have an alibi for when Abby was killed!

I have to agree with Nancy. I believe it was Lizzie, alone, who committed both murders.

I believe Lizzie was acquitted, for no other reasons than the fact she was a woman and a Borden to boot.

I think for me it would be anyone that didn'the like him, and just decided that the whole family were rotten eggs.

Too risky...and too many blows on Abby and Andrew...I doubt it was a set up.
I believe it was Lizzie...with or without help.

Welcome, Susib, and I'm sure you'll enjoy reading Parallel Lives about the times of Lizzie Borden. I was afraid I was going to live long enough for that book to come to press. Hahaa

A set up doesn't seem to fit with my thoughts about the case, but if I had to pick someone I'd probably think of Uncle John. If he had set it up he could have figured Lizzie or Bridget would be blamed because he would have known they would have been the only ones home that day other than the victims. I do have to say going into the back yard when he first came home was strange.
