Are There Any similar Cases to the Bordens?

Post by leitskev »

I found one old thread here, but it turned mostly into a thread on Jessica Chambers.

Been looking through axe murder cases. There are a lot, but nothing really similar.

Most of the ax murders seem to be stranger entering the house. A couple were disgruntled former employees.

The overwhelmingly majority of these cases where the killer is known or strongly suspected seem to involve someone who has showed signs of being deeply troubled long before the murders. For example, Henry Lee Moore. Like Lizzie, he killed family with an ax, and for financial gain. One victim was sleeping(his grandmother) the other(his mother) was in a chair and didn't see it coming.

Unlike Lizzie, there were signs. He liked to visit morgues and look at corpses. He was obsessed with famous crimes.

At the time, he was not living at home, and returned to the area and checked into a hotel so he could do the deed. After the murders, he went back to the hotel to clean up and change clothes. But when police caught up to him, they found blood smeared on his body and on the hotel sheets. Which shows how hard it is to clean up blood from ax killing.

The Borden murders stand alone for a lot of reasons, assuming Lizzie did it. There aren't any early indications of her being capable of violence. No signs of insanity. The only possible indicator of anything weird is the theft the year before in her parents' room. Everything else is normal: Sunday school teaching, charity work.

It's not hard to imagine her wanting her father dead so she could inherit the wealth. However, look at her father's destroyed face on the couch. The left side was a blood-soaked crater. Into that mess, the killer continued to swing the hatchet, splattering blood and gore. It's just hard to see where someone displays that level of brutality yet shows no hints of that ability in the years beforehand.
