Second Street Irregulars Photo Album Nov. 9, 2007

Post by Shelley »

(All photos are for personal use only and not to be reproduced on blogs, websites or electronically, or in printed form for publications without consent of the photographer)

Friday began early with a trip to the New Bedford Courthouse. We were all surprised that we were able to have complete access to the court room, and were invited to even sit in the judge's chair. It is a small space and surely every sigh Lizzie made was audible. This was the weekend highlight for me!

One surprise was finding this large oil portrait of Hosea Knowlton hanging to one side of the judge's bench over a doorway.

Attorney Barbara MacDonald listens to Chief Tavares. The space behind the bench for one judge is tight- three must have really been cozy! Barbara was one of the original 6 "Irregulars" and has often played Lizzie.

One of the high points of the weekend was getting into the Central Congregational Church. After a wonderful dinner at the Abby Grill, we asked the owner if we could pop into the church and to our surprise he allowed us to romp around, take pictures, and even answered our questions about the church.

In the second photo, check our Cemetary Jeff's eyes!

Great photos! Lots of smiling faces. Shelley is a great hostess and gives the Energizer bunny a run for his money.

How nice that you got a tour of the Court House and Fairhaven. Sorry I couldn't be there for those.

Richard, thanx for the photos inside the church. I haven't been inside yet.

Jeff - love the Red Sox jacket!

Keep the photos coming!

Oh man, That pic of me at White's is horrible. It looks like I'm ready to
AXE somebody LOL.

It was a fun weekend. Can't wait for May!! Didn't really do Oak Grove too much except for a quick run drive to Lizzie's. This will give me time
to find Helen Leighton, Charles J Holmes and Charles Allen for May

Just for the record, (again), I have noted on the first page of this photo album that I plan to invoke photo copyright law on any and all of my photos posted here. They are not to appear on any blog and I will go immediately to the server with a complaint if they are posted without MY permission. All of this sounds very mean-spirited I know, but some of the people from the forum gathering have been approached for photos and info of the event to post and use by, GUESS WHO?

So, Faye, there is NOTHING about the gathering or photos of the event in the Privy and you can clearly READ all of this right here on this public thread for Guests. There is a Privy for a reason, by the way, but you are not the center of any kind of attention there. Some of us have duly noted your beat-feet journey to Luther's Corner to copy the poses and photos of the new Andrew Borden photograph, imitating the Hatchet for your blog. Good for you. Also duly noted is the newspaper article about same "lifted" directly from Mondo Lizzie.
You are of course, Faye, quite free to come and go as you see fit, but you are not free to insinuate yourself into a private gathering, such as this was, and to which you were not invited, nor to pester, intimidate or inveigle photos and reports of the doings from guests who did attend for your private purposes, and no doubt personal ridicule. If you want to know what went on, you can read it here, see it HERE and there will be a very nice PUBLIC coverage on Warps and Wefts, and the group's own web blog, Second Street Irregulars-both of which I am certain you check daily. That all seems pretty clear.

Sorry folks, and now we return you to our regularly scheduled program.

The church inside is amazing, Harry. All great Gothic Revival and High Victorian with acres of dark walnut carving and stained glass. So many of my photo did not come out very well and I hope others got some better ones. The one funny note was the long bar filled with bottles and bottles of booze on the right front alcove- the Temperance Union would have had coronaries!

Riverside is a beautiful place, to rival Oak Grove, and we had hoped to spend more time there seeing citizens of note- but weather prohibited a lengthier stay.

Great pics, Shelley and Richard!

I took 95 photos over the weekend! ! I plan to post a few, soon - right now the files are all too big for posting here... A little tweaking should do it!

Clearly, from the pictures, it was a bad hair weekend for me, but Muttoneaters don't let vanity get in the way of investigation - and fun! :geek:

Shelley, you are NOT being mean-spirited. These are your photos and it is your right to place a stipulation on who is allowed to use them; the request for obtaining your permission is not, at all, unreasonable. I think we are very lucky that you are more than willing to share them with us, and I want to thank you for that.

This group of Second Street Irregulars was revived from a group formed by six people in 1993: Barb MacDonald, Len Rebello, Ken Souza, Ed Thibault, Debbie Shannon and myself- and I thought -what better place than the Lizzie Borden Society Forum to "recruit" new members of people interested and knowlegeable about the case. And so these are our photos, and any forum member is welcomed to attend SSI forum functions. The photos were taken FOR forum folks and I sure hope we have many years ahead of bi-annual meetings and adventures.
