Lowell Gets Bad Rap

I was watching a documentary of Bette Davis (an all-time favorite of mine) and it said she was born in Lowell, Massachusetts. It referred to Lowell in a nasty way. I forget just what they said. "Dreary" maybe or, I dunno, "crappy" (no, they didn't say 'crappy' - but whatever they said it was not complimentary.

I visited Lowell last summer for the first time. It was fabulous! A gorgeous, gorgeous historical Victorian town! I plan to go back and maybe spend a night or two.

Maybe it wasn't so charming back when Bette was born. But today it's worth the trip to run up there from Fall River. (Author is not responsible for some sections she may have left unexplored.)
