This is the place to discuss the city and the locality of the murders and the surrounding area --- both present and past.

"Lizzie's whale"

I didn't know whales lived that long. It boggles my mind to know this whale was alive when Lizzie went to Europe and when the murders occured and that it even survived a hunt from around 1890 by a lance made right in New Bedford.

That's amazing, SteveS. I didn't know they lived that long either.

Do you think it could be the same whale that attacked the ship "Scythia" (the one that Lizzie sailed on to Europe in 1890).

This article appeared in the Atlanta Constitution on Aug. 5th, 1875 and refers to an incident that occurred on August 4th, 1875. Note that date!

Anything's possible Harry  Maybe both Lizzie and the whale just didn't like August 4th.

What amazes me is that with all the excesses we have in today's world, why are we STILL hunting whales?

I was under the impression that only certain Native American tribes were allowed to hunt whales in U.S. waters.
