Does anyone know if Maplecroft has a dumb waiter?

(No jokes please)

I would think it's likely with all those storeys & the house is of the period when they were popular.

Ah yes...reminded by Stargazer's post on another thread...laundry chute.

Does Maplecroft have a laundry chute?

I don't recall seeing a laundry chute in Maplecroft, but then again I only got a tour of the first floor

Never read anything about either a dumbwaiter or laundry chute. But we know little about the interior of Maplecroft when Lizzie lived there.

With a number of fireplaces I was wondering if Lizzie had radiators as well. Spiering has this on p182: "Connected by cherrywood stairways, three floors of rooms were heated by six coal-burning fireplaces..."

However there was a furnace. Rebello has this on page 292 citing a FR Globe 1894 article:

"... Here the coachman or groom takes care of the horse, washes the harness and carriage, waters the plants, mows the lawn, brings coal and wood for the kitchen range, takes care of the furnace, shovels paths in winter and drives the family vehicle afternoons."

Yes she did have radiators in the house. I did see one on the first floor
as well as the fireplaces.

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, I was aware that they are there now. I was wondering whether they were there in 1893 when they bought the house or were later installed by Lizzie. Six coal burning fireplaces would seem to be able to heat any house. That's assuming Spiering is right. He doesn't cite a source.

Mr Dube told us the radiators were Lizzie's, but didn't tell us if they were
already there of if she put them in

I asked this once before but no one answerd it.

When Maplecroft was a B and B where did the guests stay?

With the family taking up the rooms on the second floor, I would figure that they stayed in the servants quarters in the attic.

what I woudn't give to have a floorplan of the 3rd floor.

I do remember radiators when I toured the house with my husband many years ago.
As far as where guests stayed, I'm not really sure. I want to say I read a post by someone who stayed in the front bedroom. I seem to recall that. I toured the house before it was opened as a B&B, which was short lived from what I remember.

Thanks Pam.

Maybe the number of guests were more limited than at the second street house, only using one or two bedrooms at a time.

Actually I guess the family could have stayed in the attic while the guests stayed on the second floor, or perhaps having some guests stay in the attic as well.
