Lizzie's lantern

Another EBay item using Liz to sell something. This one's a "barn lantern" for her cow! I guess the police missed the cow when they searched the barn.

Me thinks the seller is confusing Lizzie with Mrs. O'Leary, whose cow allegedly kicked over a lantern starting the great Chicago fire in 1871.

Maybe they should be notified of the mistake?
(Someone there had L.B. on the brain, tho)- At least it's not authentic and autographed!

According to Arnold Brown, she was named after William Borden's illegitimate daughter Elsie.

On one of the hatchets or axes found in the cellar there was a white hair attached. At first it was thought it might be from Andrew's head but Prof. Wood thought it might be from a cow!

Maybe Lizzie did have a cow and got in some practice with the hatchet. She would need a lantern in that dark barn.

Back in 1939 the Borden Milk Company held a contest to name their latest trademark, a cow. Alexander Woollcott, noted theater critic and wit of that period, submitted the name "Lizzie." For obvious reasons he didn't win. Apparently the company believed "Elsie Borden" was a more appropriate and gentler name for their product than "Lizzie Borden," an alleged murderer.

I will admit I buy the Borden singles versus the Kraft ones just because Borden is Lizzie's last name...

And I swear... One word to my mother that I buy processed cheese slices and you'll be sorry!
