Blizzard after blizzard

It is almost 6 am and I can't sleep. There is a blizzard brewing and will soon be here in Fall River. We had about 5 inches of snow yesterday and last night. That is on top of the three feet of snow that has accumulated in the past few weeks.

This storm is our second blizzard. This Florida gal is not used to high winds with snow! I am sort of excited by the weather---I don't want to miss it.

Winter in Fall River is fraught with problems. We are a city that has very little money, having wasted it on unnecessary expenditures. The snow plow guys work all the time, it seems, and a snow plow driver from Fall River hit and killed a woman in a parking lot in Boston. The police arrived and saw the crying man cradling the woman, praying for her soul. So sad.

I think they need to not work so much. This is their money season, however.

Last week, a snow plow driver in the south end of the city got too close to the cars parked on the road and ended up taking off about 6 side mirrors as he passed by.

I hear the wind right now. It is howling a bit. We are expecting gusts of 60 mph! And another 8-10 inches of snow.

This photo is now. Weather Underground has several live cams of the city in various places. I just pulled them off the net.

The funniest thing is that when people dig out their parking spaces on the street, they think they own that spot. So they have taken to placing chairs and couches and barrels in the spot when they go to work so the spot is there when they come home again later. The funniest ones I have seen online on the FaceBook group Grew Up in Fall River are these:

Stay warm my friends.

Wow! I hope you stay warm, Stefani! I'm in GA and we hardly see much snow. I'm not used to cold weather, either and don't know how I'd survive!

Oh, you poor, poor things! We went down the coast after New Year. A lovely trip and very warm conditions. We are having a bit of an inconsistent summer but still getting temperatures in the 30's (C.)

The picture of the back yard sure is beautiful with the snow piled up. However, I know blizzards are not fun, and they can be life threating for some people, so please be careful. I feel sorry for the people living in the New England area; you have sure gotten more than your share of snow this year!

Has "the river" frozen over yet in Fall River, the way it did during that long-ago winter when Uncle John V. Morse came to visit? [From Lizzie's inquest testimony].

The best part of three feet of snow is on the ground now at our house here in southern Vermont and the two recent blizzards have only brushed by us. But nothing is melting. Before dawn this past Monday morning we had 22 degrees below zero. This morning at 7:00 AM it was 15 below and warmed up to 1 above earlier this afternoon. Real winter and more snow forecast for this weekend!

I haven't had nearly as much snow here in Iowa- but bitter temps and wind chills.

We got quite a bit of snow in IL but nothing to match that in your area. And even the snow is frozen so it's slip and slide time here. My poor dogs have trouble walking on it and finding a spot. Better days are coming.

Take care out there. You sure have had more than your fair share of that nasty white stuff.
