Ok, here is a Rebello on eBay. BUT, IMHO, if you pay this price you are paying too much.

The listing is gone now. How much was the seller asking? It did not sell. Good! If we don't buy these over-priced Borden items, people can't price them so highly.

I will be posting one of my copies of Leonard Rebello's Lizzie Borden Past and Present on eBay in the next couple of days. Starting bid will be reasonable... still not cheap, but reasonable. If anyone is interested you may private message the moderator of this forum. The book is in fine condition and just about new with a tiny bit of scuffing to the dust jacket. Nothing to even mention. It is signed by Mr. Rebello with a dedication to a Lizzie book collector. I am willing to let it go for 95 dollars. First come, first served. Once it is posted on eBay, sale will need to go through eBay. Thanks.

I have a nice Rebello in like-new condition which I'd sell for $75. I ship via USPO in priority flat-rate boxes. Will gladly provide photos. PM or email me if interested.

I still have my Rebello on Ebay for 95 dollars. In collectable condition.

But if you are looking for a reference or reading copy there is one up for bid and it's up to 7, thats SEVEN dollars. Two days left on sale. Not in great shape. The dust jacket is just deplorable. (Hey! there's an interesting description...  )

Will probably go for much more than 7 dollars, but also real cheap. So if you don't care about how it looks on your shelf, go for it.

To anyone on this forum who bewailed the expense endured in purchasing a 'Rebello' and have not taken advantage of this deal..... well it is over.

Leonard Rebello, Lizzie Borden Past and Present sold.... twelve dollars and fifty cents.  :study:

It was me. I don't mind the cover being bashed.

... i think it's £25 of our English pounds to get it over here, if that mitigates the cheapness of it!

WOW!

MB: I don't believe I have ever seen a Lizzie Borden Past and Present, go for such a low price.

Interested: Congratulations! You have purchased a gold mine of information! Please correct me if I am wrong, but £25 English pounds is approximately $30.00-$31.00 US dollars, right? If so, your Rebello still cost less than what people paid when the book was published in May of 1999. You got yourself a bargain, there. :thumright: I’m glad you are the one who purchased this book; enjoy!

Thanks Twins! I think that's roughly right, sterling's so weak against the dollar these days... I put in a $45 bid, but didn't expect it would end that cheap. I'm not bothered about the cover. Quite frankly, that's not an attractive drawing what's on it

Thanks to you MB - without you posting the above i'd never have known it was there. I don't do Ebay and smuggled into my partner's ID to get it.
So Cheers All.

Congrats InterestedReader> Good for you. Don't think you will see it any cheaper anywhere soon or later.

Some think Past and Present is a "sit down and read the story" type of book. It is really a reference book. Sure, you can sit and read it from cover to cover. Or you may just skip page by page to find what you need to know. The index is awful.... almost useless. In that respect the book falls short. So, if you don't find it in the index you may need to thumb through and search for it manually. In studying the case you may find yourself referring to it quite a bit and the index will not be a problem.

Yes Twins. Twelve-fifty. Ebay is very fickle. Not a good place to turn over anything that has good worth to it. It is second only to Craigs List for cheapees. Past and Present sold new for 50 dollars.

You’re welcome, Interested. I can’t tell you how pleased I am that you purchased this book. I agree, the value of a book is not in its cover, but rather what is inside.

There have been previous members who would paraphrase Mr. Rebello, which always leaves me feeling as though there may have been something else of interest that he wrote. Therefore, when I post something from Rebello’s Past and Present, I type it word for word directly from his book, and then proofread it before submitting the post. I do the same when I post something from the Witness Statements, Inquest Testimonies, and Trial Transcripts, which can be downloaded from this site: http://tinyurl.com/hqn28c5 Unfortunately, I do not have a copy of the Preliminary Hearing.

Out of curiosity I checked Amazon to find out what the going price is for Lizzie Borden: Past & Present 1st Edition. Here is what I found: 6 New from $216.94 up to $457.00 + $3.99 shipping. ( Source: http://tinyurl.com/h7b2xly ), and 17 Used from $75.00 up to $3,995.00 + $3.99 shipping  ( Source: http://tinyurl.com/jojxa5e ). So, as you can see, you really did get a bargain. Kudos to you! IMO, if there was a bargain of the year prize, you would definitely have won it for 2016, hands down!

I agree with MB; Past and Present is more of a reference book than anything else, and the index does not do this book justice, but it is what it is.

Yes, MB, I purchased my Past and Present in May of 2005, from the Lizzie Borden B&B, for $50.00, plus shipping and handling, which at that time was $3.10.

That was a good deal and a good book to have as long as it's readable. I paid Fifty for mine.

Fifty dollars is an excellent deal for a Rebello.

I finally sold mine on eBay for 95 dollars just last week.

Now, there's another on eBay for 88 dollars, which is a very fair price considering what dealers are asking for it.

To place a price gauge on it, anything between 50 and 125 would be a fair asking fee for Lizzie Borden Past and Present.

There's a "buy it now" Leonard Rebello Lizzie Borden Past and Present for sale on ebay right now. Also, it says to make an offer. So this is a serious seller trying to unload a 'Rebello', cheaply.

Who knows? You may get it for 60 bucks or less. But bid too low and you may insult the seller. But why would you care? It wouldn't be your fault. After all, most of us insult ourselves when we pay head to a stranger's disparaging offer.

Thanks for the link. It says that there may be issues shipping to Canada which has usually turned into bigger issues. That being said, if anyone has a spare copy they'd like to part with, I'm looking for one. I'm pretty flexible on price.
