According to this article, an axe was used…

The evidence they found, which included an axe and a large copper tub containing fatty deposits, suggested that Mrs Thomas had been battered to death, chopped up and boiled down.

She boiled the body and gave the dripping to local children to eat.

YUCK!!! Does this remind you of Ed Gein?

Here are pictures of Julia Thomas and Kate Webster.

Look at Kate Webster's eyes - are they evil, or what?

Yes, Kate's eyes are piercing and rather evil. Thanks for finding the other articles and pictures Judy! I guess Kate was convicted on some very strong circumstantial evidence, but the case was not officially closed until now? I love shows hosted by David Attenborough, maybe they will do one about this case and the discovery of the skull. One can always hope....

Yes, it does remind me of Ed Gein and I do not believe she was being a humanitarian by feeding those children. I think she got a secret thrill out of it!

You're welcome, for the link and pictures, xyjw.

It is my understanding that Kate Webster was convicted and sentenced to execution by hanging, and on the day of her execution she confessed to murdering Julia Thomas. Apparently, the mystery of this case was Julia’s missing head. With her head being found and identified, the case can now be officially closed.

I'm with you; I don't believe she was being a humanitarian by feeding those children drippings, either! That was just nasty! :shaking:

In the link of the opening post it was said that they identified her with the use of census records and radiocarbon testing. It was probably her but I don't see that it would be proof for sure.

She does have an evil look. EEEEK

Thanks for finding the pictures. I had heard of this case before but had not seen what she looked like. She even has a facebook now. Haha

Last weekend I was watching Deadly Women on Investigation Discovery and The Barnes Mystery ( Kate Webster ) was in the episode. It is Season five of the Deadly Women series. I can't find when it is going to air again, but it was pretty good. When I was searching the site I also found an episode about Road House.

This was the segment on Deadly Women, it is about 14 minutes.
