Anyone familiar with a Victorian gadget called a "gasogene?"

It seems to be an early type of seltzer bottle.

I've seen the smaller vrsion of this picture but never the entire shot. Thanks.

Anyone familiar with Shelock Holmes knows about the gasogene. I sure would like to have one.
