Any thoughts on the 1909 post card of Lizzie currently on ebay? I say "NAY".

Lucy Borden lived in Fall River at this time...unfortunately I can't confirm her birth date as being August 19. Needless to say I emailed the seller...

Thus far the only Borden with that birth date is a male.

From the wee hours of the morning –

Me :
How do you know this is to Lizzie Borden. It isn't even sent to the correct address or on her birthday.

Seller:
Hi,

Thanks for your inquiry. There is no address on this postcard, rather a ℅ line. While we know Lizzie Borden's permanent address, we don't know if she she was visiting friends or family in August of 1909. The card was sent Aug. 19, 1909. Lizzie Borden's Birthday was July 19, 1860. I don't believe this is a coincidence that the card was sent ONE MONTH EXACTLY after her Birthday. It's obviously a belated Birthday card.

Also, there was a LUCY Borden ( you asked how I know this card is not written to Lucy Borden) in Fall River Mass. but her Birthday was May 1886 or 1887-depending on which genealogy site you use. Lucy was undoubtedly a Borden relative because it lists her birthplace as Rhode Island which is where many of the closely related Bordens( to Lizzie) came from. There were actually a couple of Lucy Bordens even going back to the 1600's.

The first Borden to set foot in Colonial America was Richard Borden, born in England, who died in 1671 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Simeon Borden's ancestors, Richard Borden (1674-1732) of Tiverton, R.I. and Joseph Borden (1680-1715) of Freetown, Mass., purchased land from Colonel Benjamin Church (1639-1718) of Plymouth, Mass. in 1714. The land was in Freetown, Mass., which later became Fall River.

Thanks for the link, Debbie. Holy Moly, this seller is asking $666.99 for a post card that was mailed from Fall River on August 19, 1909, but does not have Lizzie’s correct address on it. I don’t think so!!!
