"...congratulations" popup

Post by James »

How do I kill the "...congratultions" for my birthday pop-up. Each click and it pops up again. It's probably something that the administrator has to do: i.e. set to a one-time pop-up. It's wearing me out closing the thing.

I use a free tabbed browser called "Avant" browser. It comes with a free pop up blocker and other nice features. It is almost 100% customizable and I really like it.

Yes! please axe the birthday pop-up. I legallay have 16 days until my yearly age reminder. I'll accept the pop-up on that day but not a moment sooner.

Harry I tried your trick of 1999 but it said "not
accepting 5 years olds" (and how do I make a
smiley face here?) thanks!

Then your birthday must be after April 23. Try 1998.

Thanks Kat for passing the issue on to Stef. It's something that the Forum Administrator must set and is accessed from this forum's phpBB Administrator Control Panel, I think. But another way to do it, I suppose, would be to delete any birthday info under your Profile; which is what I will do if the pop-up continues.

Are you guys all set? Stef was out being a Shakespearian Troubador- or however you spell it!

Nancie- just click on a face- it does the rest- tho you have to use the POST REPLY button directly below a post- NOT the "Quick Reply".

I too am getting used to this! I killed the popups. Gosh, weren't they annoying!

Any other problems, complaints, or suggestions?

Nancie! You are doing good!

To use the codes:

I click on B first. I like BOLD.
Then I click on Font color :Default. The menu drops down and I pick a color.
NOW- When the color code comes on the screen it shows both the beginning code and the ending. Click right between those- right in the middle so that you are writing AFTER the bracket-color=red] but BEFORE the bracket/color]
That's the only code which is confusing. I think the rest end themselves after you submit your post.

PS: I haven't been able to get SHADOW or GLOW to work- tho they sound neat!

Scrolling problem

Post by Gramma »

Stefanie, have you found where you can change the default to show the latest message first?
I think that may cure Kimberly's scrolling problem. If she is trying to scroll while the messages are still loading it could freeze her up. Some of the threads are getting really long now and it takes quite a while for them to come in. You can change the order but have to wait for that initial loading anyway which kind of defeats the purpose of changing the order.

Yes, that's where I'm having trouble, too. Although I click on the box to ask that the newest messages show first -- I don't know how to default this setting -- so the next time I log on I have to wait for the whole thread to load before I can hit "go to the bottom" to see the posting I haven't read yet.

--------------------------
I'm editing this part in later. I see now that when I log on -- if I click on the part in the left hand column that says "view posts since last visit" and then just click on the little white message icon beside the name of the last poster in each thread in that selection -- I'm at the newest part of the thread. So that's working for me now. (But you guys probably figured that out ages ago, right? Never mind -- I'll catch up eventually.)

when I go to a site like the New Bedford one, it takes a really long
long time to load because of all the pictures, I'm sure it isn't like that for
most with newer computers. I'm getting used to the new site gradually,
I hate my avator, I want to change it to my own pix but couldn't figure it
out yesterday, every picture I scanned was too large or some other problem. I was changing my time Zone option to different ones and none
came close to my time, I hope we have a genius on board for that problem? I'm sure the quirks will all be worked out

Time is all messed up! When I log on as Admin or Stefani all the timestamps are zeros! When I view the forum as a guest, the times are all ok.

What do you guys see on the index page? Do you see 0000-00-00 for posting times, or do you see real times?

Also, you set your GMT based on where you live in relation to Greenwich Mean Time.

Here is a link to know your timezone.

Don't know if you're a fan of the "Zero Hour" radio program or not Stef, but it sure looks like it by hte time stamp.

You're right, Stef. When I log in using my user name, I get zeroes but the times show OK when I log in as a guest. This isn't consistent though. It only seems to happen after a certain time of day. I thought it might be because I neglected to change the setting for the GMT zone or enter the correct date in those little white boxes when I registered.
