Murder of a Wonderful Friend

Lonnie is from my hometown. I've known him since he was in lower elementary school. He was such a good kid, always polite and thoughtful with such an inquisitive mind and always smiling...hard-working and ever so frugal. I would willingly pull the switch to eliminate the killers who took his life. But the thing is Lonnie would be much more forgiving...he loved people and accepted everyone "as is". The last time I saw Lonnie was during his treatment for Stage 4 Lymphoma. He was chemo bald and working part time in the local Wal-Mart to "keep busy" while staying with his parents and fighting cancer that he somehow managed to defeat for 12 years. My favorite memory of Lonnie was while I was still working as a librarian so this is a loooong time ago. He was about 10 and came up to the reference desk one afternoon and explained that no one in school would tell him about venereal disease so could I please explain. I gave him a book and called his Mom to suggest they have a chat. Donna and I have laughed about this many times over the years...and now I weep about it.

Debbie, the murder of your beloved friend, Lonnie, brought tears to my eyes and really tore at my heart. His murder was the the 12th homicide in the city of Memphis in 13 days! WOW! Your story was the cause of my doing a Google search on the Memphis homicides for 2016. I think you and other forum members will find the video in this report from the WMC Action News , by Jerry Askin, very sad (Underling ans highlighting are mine).

... With only a day shy of the first two weeks of the new year, we have already seen 12 deaths--four of them children. Police have only identified one of the suspects in these shootings. At least nine remain unsolved. ...

I pray that all of these killers are arrested, convicted and given the maximum sentence allowed in the state of TN.
