Fall River is the center of the American tourism

Post by Franz »

Just bought a Michelin travel guide “USA East” (Italian version), and suddenly found that Fall River is the very center of the American tourism, even though the city itself doesn’t figure in the book (Let's forgive the authors' ignorance, Amen! ). In its vicinity are concentrated most intensively the Michelin two and three stars attractions:

Three stars: Newport, Nantucket, Cape Cod National Park, Old Sturbridge Village, Boston, Hancock Shaker Village, The Berkshires, Hudson River Valley, Yale University, Mystic Seaport, and… New York.

Two stars: Providence, Portsmouth, Canterbury Shaker Village, Williamstown, Hartford, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Long Island, and… Princeton University.

Wow!

Just an idea... could any publishing house accept the titles as: The Travel Guide of the Criminal America, France, China, etc.?

That is some interesting information on the Michelin travel guide 'USA East', Franz. I have not been to Fall River, but I would sure love to visit that city before my time on earth is up. I did a Google search and found the following information within a couple of categories in a web site.

About Fall River

Fall River is a city in Bristol County, Massachusetts, United States. It is located about 46 miles (74 km) south of Boston, 16 miles (26 km) southeast of Providence, Rhode Island, and 12 miles (19 km) west of New Bedford and 10 miles (16 km) south of Taunton. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 88,857, making it the tenth largest city in the state.

Located along the eastern shore of Mount Hope Bay at the mouth of the Taunton River, the city became famous during the 19th century as the leading textile manufacturing center in the United States. While the textile industry has long since moved on, its impact on the city's culture and landscape remains to this day. Fall River's official motto is "We'll Try," dating back to the aftermath of the Great Fire of 1843. It is also nicknamed "the Scholarship City" because Dr. Irving Franklin founded Dollars for Scholars here in 1958.

Fall River is known for the Lizzie Borden case, Portuguese culture, its numerous 19th-century textile mills and Battleship Cove, the world's largest collection of World War II naval vessels and the home of the USS Massachusetts (BB-59). Fall River is also the only city in the United States to have its city hall located over an interstate highway.

Discover Fall River: Shining A Light on City Attractions

The city of Fall River is home to a variety of noteworthy museums, cultural attractions, and places of historical significance, and visitors come from far and wide to see them. In fact, based on consistently outstanding reviews from travelers, three Fall River attractions have earned the coveted Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, the world’s largest travel site.

To increase awareness of these places of interest, Fall River Community Media (FRCMedia) recently produced a half-hour television special. Entitled Discover Fall River, the program features nine Fall River attractions:

• Battleship Cove
• Children's Aquarium and Exploration Center of Greater Fall River
• Children's Museum of Greater Fall River
• Fall River Historical Society
• Lafayette-Durfee House
• Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast Museum
• Maplecroft (former residence of Lizzie Borden)
• Marine Museum at Fall River
• Old Colony & Fall River Railroad Museum

"As is often the case, even members of the local community are not always aware that these places are open to the public and what they're about," said Keith Thibault, FRCMedia's director. "Our program will make viewers more aware of Fall River's attractions, and we hope it will encourage them to visit."

Thank you for the information, twinsrwe. I didn't know Fall River has many other attractions other than those linked with Lizzie.

Stavensmith, I see you submitted a post in April of 2019, and I apologize for not welcoming you to the forum at that time. Thank you for hanging in there in spite of that. I want to welcome you now!
