Makes me wonder if one of them was sentimental, at least in younger days? Seems out of character for what we know of Andrew…

I imagine a young Andrew was smart and "went with the flow" on his first wedding.

Yes; they were both so much younger then, and probably full of hope. So many small aspects of this case, such as that wedding date, turn the screw up just a notch in making the murders tragic.
