Black Dahlia film and television program

Post by Shelley »

Did anyone see the program on the Black Dahlia case last night? I had read Black Dahlia Avenger when it first came out and did not believe the 2 photos in Dr. Hodel's album were Betty Short. His son Steve makes a pretty good case for his Dad's guilt. What a creppy man with creepy friends. The interview with Tamar Hodel was very compelling.

I am looking forward to the film on Sept. 15th.

Was that a repeat about the son suspecting the father?
I think I saw it a while ago- last year?

Out here in LA in the Sunday paper they reprinted the original add from the case with cover story from 1947. Great promotion Idea.

Steve Hodel wrote a book "The Black Dahlia Avenger" a few years ago.
I don't think he proved his case, but did reveal the corrupt politics of that time.
There is a future movie (fictional!) that deals with this case.

My impression is that Dr. Hodel was a "society doctor" who performed abortions for the rich and famous, and their mistresses. There was a film made about 25 years ago that used this case for inspiration.

An unmarried woman dies during an abortion, and they try to cover it up by making it look like a sex-torture murder. The removal of the vagina destroyed evidence of a foetus and the cause.
About 40 years ago I read of a case in Brooklyn (?) where a young girl died during an abortion, so the Doctor cut up her body and threw the pieces into a sewer. The body parts were soon found.
It was Farmer William in the Bedroom with the Hatchet.
