Re: Oh My Goodness...
Right now I have few words. Van Houten was initially sentenced to death, but the death penalty was commuted to life in prison after a court case invalidated all sentences to death prior to 1972. IMO no amount of rehabilitation can ever outweigh the crimes committed by Manson and his minions...with apologies to the movie.

Re: Oh My Goodness...
I agree, Deb. Like Susan Atkins, Charlie Manson, Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel and Leslie Van Houten should never be paroled; they should have to fulfill their life sentences in prison. If Leslie is paroled, what is she going to do in order to support herself at the age of 66? Granted she has obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees, but who would hired her? Is she going to ‘retire’ and collect Social Security Benefits, for which she has put nothing toward?
However, for the time being, the full parole board now have 120 days to review the finding. If it's upheld, California's Governor Jerry Brown will have 30 further days to approve or deny parole or order the case sent back to the board for a rehearing.
Governor Brown was 31 years old when the Tate-LaBianca murders occurred, so hopefully he will remember what it was like to have lived through the shock, horror and terror those murders caused throughout the entire country, and deny her parole.

Re: Oh My Goodness...
I signed the petition for the Governor to not grant parole. She was 19 when she participated in the desecrating of a dead body. She held one of the victims down so I believe she knew what it was she was doing. She did what she was told- what's to stop her from doing what she's told again? And I agree with Twins. What is she going to do to support herself?

Re: Oh My Goodness...
Mystery, welcome back! It's good to see you posting again.
I have a question: Where did you go to sign a petition for the Governor? This is the first I knew there was a petition available, and I'd also like to sign it not granting her parole.

Re: Oh My Goodness...
You're welcome for the warm welcome back, Misty.
Thank you for posting the link to the petition for Governor Brown; I also signed it. Actually, I think it is really cruel to parole anyone who has spent the past 46 years in prison, so that they are faced with trying to cope in the kind of world we live in today.
Thank you for the compliment regarding the tiny URL's I post. I have put together the following step by step directions on how to post a tinyURL.
How to make a tiny URL:
1. Highlight and then copy the URL you wish to make tiny.
2. Go into the following link: http://tinyurl.com/
3. Paste the long URL in the space provided.
4. Click on the icon marked ‘Make tinyURL’
5. Read the directions. You can either choose to ‘Open in a new window’ or ‘Copy to clipboard’. I always choose the ‘Copy to clipboard’ option.
6. Paste the TinyURL in the body of your e-mail message, or within a post to be submitted here at the forum.
NOTE: On the far left side of the link I provided, is the option to ‘Make Toolbar Button’. This option pins the TinyURL web site to your toolbar. I have the TinyURL web site pinned on my toolbar; it is so handy when I find a web site that I want to place the link to within a post I am preparing to submit here on the forum, or place it within an e-mail message.
If you have questions, please ask.
