Does anyone know anything about this "New Lizzie Movie" with Gary Busey ? I just seen a reference to it on line now, for the first time. Maybe I have been away from Lizzie for too long.

I have not heard of a Lizzie movie starring Gary Busey, so I Googled ‘Gary Busey Lizzie’, and found that there was a film titled, Lizzie (2012), which was released on September 10, 2013 in the USA. Is this the film you are referring to?

However, during my research I found out that there is a Lizzie film coming out sometime this year, titled, Lizzie (2017), but as far as I can tell, Gary Busey is not in this film: http://tinyurl.com/y7qkyznx - http://tinyurl.com/ycarfjyb - http://tinyurl.com/ybldvmhc

There is a movie that was planned for major motion picture release, with Chloe Sevigny as Lizzie and Kristen Stewart (of Twilight fame!) as Bridget Sullivan. I've since heard that it may go straight to digital rather than going to movie theaters which makes me think the script must not be great. I was really sad when I heard that; I want to see it on the big screen! I blogged a few times about the movie when they released stills from the shoot. Here are three blog posts to look at:
1. This link is fun because I created diptychs with the actors paired with their historical counterparts (some of them in costume for the movie): http://erikamailman.blogspot.com/2016/1 ... words.html.
2/ This one shows some movie stills: http://erikamailman.blogspot.com/2016/1 ... movie.html
3. And more movie stills: http://erikamailman.blogspot.com/2016/1 ... movie.html
Enjoy!!

I saw the movie with Gary Busey in it. It was terrible and not even based on the case itself. In one scene they showed Mr. Borden raping Bridgett. It was a joke.

Hello Rockalbert, welcome to the forum.

Yes, PattiG157 saw the movie; her review of it is in the post just above your post.

I do not understand why someone cannot just make a movie telling what we know, not what we THINK happened or making something up altogether. Show Uncle John coming in the night before the murders (which NO movie has ever done!), show the burning of the dress three days later, show the visitors to Lizzie's jail cell while she was awaiting trial. There are enough things we DO know that we can show, then let the viewers decide for themselves. This new movie sounds ridiculous (Lizzie and Maggie in a relationship???), and so was the one with Christina Ricci. The only one that showed a few facts is the one with Elizabeth Montgomery made in the mid-70s. I'm still waiting for someone to make a movie about Lizzie that doesn't frustrate us Lizzie fanatics!!!

Thanks for the links to the new Lizzie movie, MB.

Patti, I would also like to see a movie about the Borden murders that only show the facts, but I think it is wishful thinking on our part. Both the movie starring Christina Ricci and the one starring Elizabeth Montgomery failed to have Uncle John's character in them; at least this new movie is supposed to have him in it.

Keeping in mind this is fiction. And in the genre of story telling, one is at liberty of twisting the truth as they see fit. But to me it begs the question, "have we no decency?" I hear that there is a scene where Lizzie and Bridget are completely naked. Subtleties are no longer left to the mind. The screen does the job for you. Your imagination is left in your pocket. I wonder whom they are soliciting here? Easy question to answer.

To anyone that knows the truth behind the Borden saga he/she can easily twist their creativeness, perception, and twisted mind's eye to make things work. But to those who know nothing about the crime or very little about the life and times of Lizzie Borden, a movie like this can be down right depraved if not perverse, molding there perception of the crime in perverted paths. Especially since the real Lizzie Borden was found innocent and her good name is persistently dragged through the mud.

I should be one to speak. :-? I too twisted the truth when I wrote about Lizzie. I did hold back a lot. Regrettably, I too feel at times I went a little too far.

In most cases something is seriously lost (or gained) when a story is translated from the printed word to the screen.

Today with all the visual and shocking action smeared onto the cinema screen it has become more difficult to hold the interested of the common movie goer. Such an audience would be bored to death by a movie like Love Story or an old Bogart flick.

I had entertained writing a love story about Lizzie Borden.... one that occurs before, during, and into her latter life. With a sympathetic pungency into Lizzie's desires. Not concentrating on the crime but her Maplecroft years.....making it as realistic and plausible as possible. But sadly I am done writing about Lizzie, though I enjoy doing so here on the forum.

I just wish someone would write a real account of the crime. Yes, twist it a little. Add extra fictional characters. But make it true to the real story. You are not going to entertain me with two naked women embracing. Or a naked women and a man. If the account was true then it could conveniently be recored to film. Otherwise it's all sensationalism and in some cases, smut.

All and all, each to their own. Just not me.

Forget the movies and watch this instead.

Very charming. Talk about indoctrinating your kids into popular culture (Facebook semblance) Now I say they are charming and to you they very well may be. But not having any kids, and now being an old fart, videos such as this can be very annoying. But I love these two peewees. Adorable. I guarantee you'll like it. Dripping in Cuteness. I love when one kid pushes the other kid out of the camera view.

Hi everyone. Long time forum reader, first time poster. Ha. Personally, I'm looking forward to this movie for one huge reason. I think they actually attempt to show Lizzie as a 3 demensional human being, rather than a ridiculous Halloween character... even though they present her as guilty. I'm always excited to give Lizzie books / movies a chance... well, except for that Gary Busey movie. That looks ridiculous. Just my thoughts. Happy to be in the conversation! 🤓

Hello LABRhush, welcome to the forum.

I am glad to see you posting, and I hope you continue to share your thoughts with us.

I am also looking forward to seeing the new Lizzie movie, which is scheduled to be released in the USA on September 14, 2018, and it is scheduled to be released in the UK on November 16, 2018.

I really enjoyed this video of actress Chloë Sevigny and screenwriter Bryce Kass being interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter at the 2018 Sundance Film Festival. I absolutely love Chloë’s answer to the Second Street B&B being haunted : http://tinyurl.com/yawwqahc

Thanks twinsrwe! I love that Chloe was so upfront in that vid. I'm from Texas, but I've stayed the night in the B&B twice now. I felt comfortable both times... running around till 3am, then sleeping great. I am on the countdown for Sept. 14. Im really excited to see Lizzie portrayed as a woman, rather than some evil entity, with a bit of empathy.

You're welcome, LABRhush .

I envy the fact that you have had the opportunity to stay overnight at the B&B. I have never been to Fall River, and hopefully someday I will fulfill my dream of visiting the city and meeting the people I am familiar with via their names only.

Of all the movies that have been released about Lizzie Borden, my favorite is still, the 1975 one titled, The Legend Of Lizzie Borden, starring Elizabeth Montgomery. IMO: There is one thing for sure, the new movie has to be better than the 2014 TV movie titled, Lizzie Borden took an axe, starring Christina Ricci, as well as the 2015 limited mini-series titled, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, also starring Christina Ricci. However, we will see if the new movie is realistic or not.

I agree Twinsre!
I know they take some literary license with their theory, but that's everyone who writes about Lizzie.. outside of documentaries. I've been following the movie's journey since 2014 when it was first set to be an HBO project. It's been Chloe Sevigney's passion project for a decade, so I'm hopeful. Like you mentioned, Uncle John is actually in this one!
As far as the B&B, I really enjoyed it both times and I love Fall River. Now if I could just get a chance at Maplcroft.... 🤓

The new film about Lizzie Borden has one of my favorite actresses in it, as to real fact about the Borden family and what went on behind closed doors hard to say what is fact or fiction at this point. Lizzie and Emma least according surviving records died within days of each other in 1927, both in their elderly years. I have seen the TV movie with Elizabeth Montgomery and the more recent one with Christina Ricci and both were entertaining, but true to facts of what happened. I don't know. I did find out that by way of a half-siblings in the Blount family one leading to a woman that married into the Lee family that I am descended from, and the other with flurry of descendants including Princess Diana Spencer, Sir Winston Churchill, the Queen Mum (mother of Queen Elizabeth II), including the modern Royal Family of England, and most certainly too George Washington, and the woman this forum is named after. Lizzie Borden is a 9th cousin of mine. I will say this for her, and I think the Elizabeth Montgomery portrayal of her did it best. She was likely nude or in a dressing gown (which would've been easily discarded in the wood burning stove and consumed by the flames before the discovery was made by of her father) when she did what she did, if she acted in it at all, and the Fall River Police did botch the investigation by allowing people to roam the house the very same day the crime happened. Blood was not found on her, and that sort of violence always splatters ample amounts. So, for me its a question mark if Lizzie did the crime at all. As far as entertaining television movies and the up-coming one, great entertainment, but truth as to what happen. I'm doubtful. So, did my cousin, Lizzie, do the crime, was it a cooperative effort, or was she actually innocent of it??? Thoughts welcomed...

Im looking very forward to the upcoming film. I enjoy both Chloe Sevigney and Kristin Stewart . And Im very jealous... I would love to be related to Miss
Borden. Better get myself that anscestory account 😁

While I'm not quite the Lizzie Borden aficionado that some of you are, I knew that they *had* to take some creative license while watching it, but honestly, that didn't detract at all from my experience of it. I just think it's a shame that there wasn't a mini-series like Chloe Sevigny intended to make originally.

Saw the movie in the theater, my take on it is that by the hint that Lizzie was ensuring her secrets and her inheritance by killing her parents made some sense. I also think its convenient that Emma Borden in the film bought into the fact that Lizzie was innocent or knew Lizzie was guilty of it, but didn't want to see her sister hang for it. As to the Lesbian part of it, its feasible that Lizzie and the maid had interests in each other, and if Mr. Borden was a dirty old man and messed with the maid, then that's reason for them lashing out as a team. Even from outside the house, something should've been heard by the maid as she was cleaning the windows. Yet, she did her part to either dismiss it or cover it up, my question is why? Not shown in the film, but a point that should be made, Mr. Borden's face was destroyed. Was there incest in the house? If so, it would make sense that Lizze would want to destroy the face of her father, and if Emma was messed with too; she was more than happy to cover up for her sister not wanting to take part in it, but willing to stand by Lizzie for the duration of the criminal proceeding. There is also an outside chance that the bastard son of Mr. Borden may have been involved. However, all involved individuals are long deceased, and anything they knew went to the grave with them.
