Well, as far as falling to the floor...

Post by Bob Gutowski »

...Wednesday night - well, actually Thursday morning, at about 3, I woke up out of my weary, cold-interrupted sleep and decided to head back to bed from the couch. What I thought was mere wooziness was actually low-blood sugar because, as I opened my eyes to find myself on the bathroom floor, with water dripping on me from the sink that was running over, the last thing I remembered was going to wash my hands...freaky.

So, I wonder, since I only banged my side - how much noise did I make? Thank goodness I didn't hit my head on the tub! Oh, and it wasn't farmer Willy - it was just me.

Bob, are you alright?! Thats scary. Did you not eat due to nausea? I hope you are feeling better now despite probably having some killer bruises. Ouch. If the noise didn't waken Jay and Lizzie to come and investigate, then it probably wasn't that loud.

medication ( or too much of it) can do such things. or medication that is not right for you.

this reminds me of something that happened to me -- after a day of painful, traumatic tests on my back with all these injections and an IV of something and then a pain medication on top of it -- i was dreaming i was in a pitch dark room trying to feel my way out of it and very gradually gained consciousness to realize i was not in bed at all but i was in the stairwell. eventually i managed to crawl upstairs and get a light on. i had to meditate to get my brain right so i could go back to bed.

THIS IS DANGEROUS BUSINESS. if you're unsure what caused it -- you need to make an appointment with your doctor. i knew what my disorientation stemmed from, but if you are mystified by it -- you need a professional assessment. what if this happens on the subway platform or while you're walking in front of a bunch of horn-blowing, cursing yellow cabs?

this would not be about abby borden but about bob G. you've had an MRI, haven't you? or have you? anyway, this is not something to forget about. get it investigated immediately.

Trust me, I don't want THAT to happen again! I'm seeing my specialist next week! Thanks a lot for your concern, everyone. My sore side seems to be healing.

Bob- I remember a couple of times getting up out of a sound sleep, going a few steps, and then seeing stars and totally blacking out. It was what is called orthostatic hypotension. If one's blood pressure is low to begin with and then one suddenly stands up, it causes the blood pressure to drop quickly and you can pass out. One time I fell onto an ironing board that I had left up and when I woke up I was lying on the floor all tangled up in it. Do you think that getting up too fast might have been what caused you to do that? (black out, I mean, not getting tangled up in an ironing board. )

It could've contributed, no doubt, though I have been faint from low-blood sugar before, though not to the actual point of collapsing. A male co-worker of mine has been cautioned to count to ten if he gets up from sleeping and has to urinate - he lost consciousness just that way.

My side is better every day.

Would a higher-protein diet prevent low blood sugar?
