It is really very sad, her son has just died, she gave birth to a daughter, then she dies. I suspect drugs given her history. I feel sorry for her baby who has been born into this nightmare. I had also recently heard that she and Trimspa were being sued, so maybe all the stresses of her life got the best of her. I still think it has to be drugs.

Yes, its all so very sad. I had heard that she had a fall in the shower and whacked her head a good shot, but, that she said she was okay. She then had a meal and went to take a nap and that is how the nurse found her. Apparently Anna was quite taken with Marilyn Monroe, such a waste, two blond bombshells cut down in their prime.

To be a bit crass here at this point- I will mention the money. I forgot that the son of Anna's elderly husband has also died recently! He was the main family member locked in lawsuit battle with Anna!
So that is the son of the billionaire, Anna's son and herself.
It's creepy. And so sad. I wonder if he had just settled with Anna they would all still be alive?

I feel the same way about that baby, Ellen. I darn well hope she gets a real good home!
I never paid any attention to Smith. I remember hearing about her marriage to the old gent, her fight for the money and that is about all. She was never on my radar. But still I feel sad about her death for some reason. I remember Jayne Mansfield's death and her leaving those young children behind. Marilyn Monroe's death was sad too but at least she left no children behind.
Smith was 39. Just a kid.

I had two copies of that book years ago but I never read either. Is it any good?
I loved his "Auntie Mame." Both the book and movie. An actress friend of mine played the role on stage years ago. I should get "Little Me" and read it this time.

My concern is with the future of that little baby... I, too, hope that little tyke it is placed in a decent, loving, home. For the short 39 years that Anna Nicole Smith was on this earth, she sure left one heck of a memory for that little one to live with.

1bigsteve: "Little Me" is a very funny send-up of star autobiographies, written in 1961. It tells the story of one Belle Poitrine (translation: nice breasts), who after being born on the wrong side of the tracks, ends up (through one means or another) at the pinnacle of her profession, regardless of the fact that she has no discernible talent.
The book is made even funnier by the fact that it is packed with photographs. Dennis and his photographer picked a complete cast and photographed scenes. It is one of the funniest books I've ever read.
When Anna Nicole appeared on the scene, I couldn't help but think of Belle Poitrine. And each bizarre twist in her life seemed to mirror Dennis' book. (Best chapter title: "I find God in Southampton.")
Read it and let me know what you think.

Thanks, Stuartwsa. I'll get a copy and read it this time. I understand that the woman posing as the actress in the book is a real actress. I love funny books.
Have you ever read "Gypsy And Me?" It's about the life of Gypsy Rose Lee after she quit the stripping business, written by her son Erik Lee Premminger. It is a funny story with a bitter-sweet ending. I've read it about seven times. I love it.
I was just thinking something about Anna Nicole Smith. She died before hitting forty. Marilyn Monroe also died before forty (I don't buy the suicide verdict) and Jayne Mansfield also died before forty. All three "bombshells" were on the skids at the time of their deaths.
I find it ironic, in a strange way, that it was just Jayne and the two men in the front seat who were killed while her three children in the back seat survived. She had put her kids in the back seat minutes before the crash, saving their lives. Here's something that really gets me. Of all the cars they could have been in it just so happens that they were in that huge Electra. If it had been any other car they all would probably have been killed. Strange.

Pardon my French, but 'belle poitrine' translates as 'Beautiful Breasts'.
Jayne Mansfield, the then Marilyn Monroe clone, has precedence. (Am I showing my age?)
Jayne won a national talent award for her violin virtuosity, but Hollywood decided her other talents were more important than a 160 IQ.
She came to a tragic end through no fault of her own, except not wearing a seat belt in 1966.
Her first film "The Girl Can't Help It" is very enjoyable, I recommend you all see it for the 1950s sound. Its a story with a moral.

Well, according to Dictionary.com Translator, "Belle Poitrine" means "Beautiful Chest." Of course we all know what that really means don't we?
I found out the book was rereleased in 2002. I've got to get one. I love a funny story.
Jayne Mansfield was not thrown from the car. Her body was taken from the car and placed on the road shoulder. I have a photo of them doing that. A seat belt would not have saved her or anyone in the front seat, unfortunately. Why that idiot was spraying bug spray from the right lane instead of the road shoulder I'll never know. Too bad.

It's been my understanding that her daughter, Mariska Hargitay plays the cop on Law & Order.
She is also very bright and beautiful!~
She's the reason I watch that show.

True. Mariska was in the back seat with two of her siblings. One of the children broke their arm.
Mariska and Wynonna Judd became friends somewhat in the late '60's-early '70's. Mariska's dad died recently.

RayS @ Thu Feb 15, 2007 2:36 pm wrote:There was a crash on the road. Jayne wore no seat belt.
Her head went through the ragged edged windshield, and landed in the road. The rest of her body stayed inside.
The rear bottom edge of the trailer hit Jayne at the eyebrow level and sheared off her forehead and the front of her brain. The rest of her head was untouched. She was not decapitated. Whether she was or was not wearing a seat belt had no bearing whatsoever on how she was killed. A seatbelt could not have saved anyone in that type of collision. It was foggy at the time of the wreck and the driver of the Electra did not see the trailer and hit it full-force. No one had a chance to "duck." Fortunately, Jayne and the two men in the front seat never felt a thing. If they had been in a normal-sized car all six would have been killed.
The photo of Jayne's hair-piece sitting on the hood lead to the mistaken conclusion that Jayne was decapitated. She was not. I have photos of her body being pulled out of the car and her head is still on her shoulders.
Her death is one of the things that lead to legislation that now requires trailers to have that steel guard placed just below the bottom edge of the trailer to keep cars from slidding under the trailer. A lot of people were killed just like Jayne was.
Now, Vic Morrow is a different story...

Thanks for the extra info on Ms. Mansfield.
Mr. Hargitay had been Mr. Universe or something, yes?
I didn't know he died recently. Mariska seems to have taken a break from the show but she's back now.
I don't watch it all the time, but I sure notice when she is missing! She's so cool.
Do you know these people?

Hargitay was "Mr. Universe" in 1955. He died last September. He was operating a nursery and landscaping business since 1980.
I haven't see Mariska in anything yet. I should tune into her show and see how she stacks up against her mom. I don't know Mariska or her dad. I never met them. I never met or talked with Jayne Mansfield either. I never cared for the "blond bombshells" and I never liked Jayne's attempts at getting publicity with her "wardrobe malfunctions." Marilyn Monroe had more "class" than Jayne while Mamie Van Doren is just plain, well, I'll keep my mouth shut.
I think both Marilyn and Jayne would have been interesting to be around away from the cameras, when they can just be themselves, but I would rather spend 10 minutes talking with Audrey Hepburn than a week with either Marilyn or Jayne.

It shows the top of the car roof peeled back from hitting a truck and going under the end. No other descriptive comments about the rest. More than one body?
There were three adults in the front seat. The twenty year old driver, Jayne's lawyer, and Jayne herself. Three of her kids were sleeping in the back seat. When the police first saw the car they thought it was a convertible because of the steel roof getting peeled back. I also have photos of the two men in the front seat. They took more of a beating then Jayne did.
In the "Hollywood Babylon" book there is a photo of Jayne's dead dog. Just to the left of the dog, laying on the pavement, is a small chunk of human brain tissue. That belonged to Jayne.
Sadly, Jayne's carrear was on the skids at the time of her death, much like Anna Nicole's. She was on her way to a radio interview in New Orleans, in the hopes of reviving her popularity, when she died. The 1966 Buick Electra was owned by the owner of the supper club she was performing at.
The slid to the bottom is always sad.
