I can't imagine what some people are going though worrying about their dogs and cats who may be affected by this bad batch of pet food!
Luckily my 2 cats have thrived on Friskies Buffet their whole lives and now are 16 years old. Since they were strays, I think they've done very well for themselves. Their mother picked me to raise her kits.
Is anyone getting panicky? Are you and yor beloved pet affected?
I have been feeding my two dogs Iams dog food, one of the affected pet food brands. They get both the dry and the canned food. The dry was not included in the recall, but the canned was suspect, so I checked the numbers on the bottom of the cans against a list on the internet. None of the cans matched the bad lot numbers, so I'll continue feeding it.
That was a bit of a scare! I certainly didn't waste any time checking the numbers as soon as I heard about it!

My bouncing baby boy eats Cesars and it was not on the recall list. He is a tad spoiled and really prefers the filet mignon. I would be a basket case if something had happened to him. My heart breaks for all the little fuzzies and their owners who were affected.

I agree the law needs to change! My dogs are my children. I feed them Iams dry food, and usually mix in some green beans or rice every once in a while. They love their green beans!

My dog eats walmarts "ole Roy" but the dry kibbles and chunks and chews. My cat eats canned 9 lives chicken slices in gravy. I was pannicked big time when i 1st read about the recall and the pet illness and deaths. My cat had threw up that morning and my dog was real listless the next day but they seem ok now. Just a fluke I guess but it does make you wonder how rat poison got in there and what the government is doing to protect our pet food supply.

This is a horrible thing that is happening; I, too, wonder how in the world rat poison got in these foods to begin with. Pets do become a member of the family; I can't imagine how I could live with the knowledge of knowing that I had a hand in my pets death! My heart goes out to these pets and their families.
Luckily our cat is fed a dry cat food which we obtain from it's vet!

There was a similar case in the South West decades ago. They used a mercury compound to preserve grain that was to be used for planting (?) or some industrail use. But people took it for food, with the bad results of mercury poisoning.
In WW II saboteurs dropped explosives that looked like lumps of coal into train depots. The intent was to destroy any locomotive that used it. But it caused civilian casualties when civilians scrounged coal for their homes.
I feed my babies Science Diet...lamb and rice. Dry. We're safe.

What beautiful photos. I know I'm not in the forum long, but I read your posts almost daily & know you are all special people and you'll undestand. I almost did have a meltdown at work when I found out, I work 12 hour shifts and almost left so I could get my hands on the list of cat food. I called home but everything was ok. When got home I raced to the computer for the list. Luckily the food wasn't on the list. All I could do was hug Celina. I know I was really attached to this cat, but boy it really struck me just how much on that day. Thank you all for letting me vent & I'm glad all of your babies are all ok too.
Wheat is not very good for dogs. Many allergies can be directly contributed to wheat in dog food. Finding dog food without wheat takes careful shopping. Ninety Five per-cent of dog food uses wheat as fillers. Another tip is to feed your dog only dry food. Can food is not very healthy. The meats can't be trusted and are loaded with preservatives.
The poison dog food supposedly came from the wheat product in the canned food. From China?? I thought America was the bread basket of the world? Can anyone name something that does not come from China?

Love the pics of everyone's babies, so sweet!!! I checked with my fiance as to what his dogs eat, he had heard of only one brand that had been recalled, I told him the list was like 53 brands. Anyhoo, they eat Timberwolf, its an all natural kibble and its not on the suspect list.

10 years ago my husband found an abandoned litter of 2 day old kittens on top of the roof of the restaurant he worked at in Florida. A coworker bottle fed them and my husband kept them in a box in his office. He picked out one kitten to keep and the other two were taken by a coworker.
Now, the kitten is a 15 pound, totally spoiled and pampered baby. When I heard about the recall, I immediately checked the list. Luckily, our baby only eats Purina Deli-Cat, which is a dry food. So I knew he was safe. Sadly, though, a local couple lost a miniature poodle that had eaten IAMS that was contaminated.
Yes, our Kitty is our baby...we love him and spoil him to pieces.
We have six cats, ages 17, 16, 15, 8, 5 and 2. I lost two other cats in the past two years, but they were 17 when they died, so I must be doing something right. They've always eaten dry cat food. As long as they have a good amount of water available they will be fine on dry food.

My cat Peggy died many years ago of old age, so i don't have to worry about her. I watched my German Shepard die a slow, painful death after getting into a garbage can full of bones. He bled to death. I don't have any pets now. I'll be getting a bird soon.
It is obvious that there are no inspectors doing a proper job any more. No real quality control.
If they don't know how the poison got into the pet food, how do they know which lots are safe and which are not?? Hmmm...
My heart goes out to all those who have lost their pets. I know how painful it can be.

It looks like some chemical/plastic was found in the nation's pet food. First rat poison and now plastic. I wonder what they will find next, metal filings, bearing grease, Lizzie's hatchet, Jimmy Hoffa? I'll bet some heads are going to roll over this one! "Quality control" my foot.
It makes me wonder what they are puting in our food.

Our calico cat Heidi and both our gray tabby cats, Junior and Yoda eat the dry stuff. I checked the bag its not on the recall list.
My grandad's calico cat Micky ate meow mix and she lived till 21.
Some of that cat food has too much salt in it. I noticed a few times when I bough different brands how the cats would start drinking more water than usual. Grandad noticed it years before with Mickey, he even went as far as tasting the cat food to check it to see and it tasted salty.

i am super scared that my dog is sick because of this pet food thing. one off the symptoms of the illness with it all is they drink a lot of water and my buddy has been drinking way more water

I would call the vet ASAP and get him checked out immediately.

First the dogs and cats, then pigs have been fed the tainted food and now I hear on the news that chickens have been fed the same stuff and people are eating those chickens!

I know I worry about my cat, Snokkums. She's my child. But, luckily, I make her food, so I don't to worry about bad cat food. Yes, I cook her food. Shes spoiled (but don't tell her, she doesn't know!).
Suicide is painless It brings on many changes and I will take my leave when I please.
Good Grief!! What next? It's a wonder our life expectancy has gone up, between the polluted air we breath and God only knows what's in our drinking water, the ground we are growing our food in being chemically altered, and now our chickens and pork being (basically) poisoned...............Any aliens out in space that have had their eye on moving to Earth have probably flown right on by, having assessed it as a potential garbage dump!
Since my boy cat, Acey, had surgery to remove his penis due to urethral obstruction, we use prescription pet food directly from the vet. I did call to check to make sure the food we are using was not one of the brands affected. I asked the vet if they are seeing a lot of cases, but they said mainly people are calling to check if what pet food they are using are ok and bringing in their pets for blood work to make sure they are not affected.
I can't imagine what people went through if their pets were affected. I would be devastated!
