Lizzie Dust

Posted in Borden Buzz, Fall River News on July 15th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

I found a piece about Lee-ann Wilbur’s sale of Borden house fireplace chimney dust to raise money for the planned renovations in the Spring 2005 newsletter called “The Compass,” published by the Bristol County Convention & Visitors Bureau.

You can download your copy of the 8-page report in PDF format here. The article is on page 3.

She’s Famous But Is She New England?

Posted in Borden Buzz, On the Web on July 15th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

A nicely researched and well written piece on Lizzie Borden by Kate Woodbury is found on katepapers. I really recommend you give it your time and read it all in one sitting. It raises some very interesting points and examines the iconography of this enigmatic person we all read about here.

Here’s a snippit:

It is the domesticity of the murders—”that House”—which pulls people in. In murder mysteries, we are attracted to the forensics, the heroism of the detective, the capture of the bad guy. But more importantly, we are attracted to the exposure of hidden lives. We are voyeurs, peering through windows, sneaking in back doors, sending spy cameras down the chimney. The Borden murders tantalize us with a view into an otherwise stiflingly dull Victorian household.

Hauntings Notes

Posted in Are They Crazy?, Borden Buzz, Scary Lizzie on July 15th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

axeredIn Volume 8, Issue 2 (summer 2005) of the Hauntings Notes newsletter is a piece titled “Lizzie Borden Secrets Unlocked.” Download the PDF of the issue here.

The story details the filming of the segment on the house for Fangoria TV’s Ghost Stories. It talks about the large number of EVPs (electronic voice phenomena) they picked up in their two days at the house.

What confounds me is this part of the story:

“What was very interesting was the fact that, later that evening we did our first EVP (electronic voice phenomena) session in this room and immediately got a female voice stating ‘Church has ‘em’.” It would come out later during the investigationthat there was apparently some information shared by Lizzie with the Rector of the nearby Catholic Cathedral of St. Mary, Rev. James Cassidy, regarding her true involvement in the crime. This was of course unknown to the team at the time. Was this ghostly voice hinting that there was indeed a connection between Lizzie and the murders and that she had confessed to the crime during this impromptu meeting with Rev. Cassidy in the summer of 1927 just days before her death?

Huh? Who told them this? Lu-cy. You’ve got some ’splainin’ to do!

Alison Fraser

Posted in Borden Buzz, Lizzie Web Images, Where are they now? on July 15th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

Alison Fraser created the role of Lizzie Borden in Christopher McGovern’s musical Lizzie Borden. She has a fabulous website that I know you will love. She has a section with some sound clips from the soundtrack, a slideshow gallery of her various roles which includes her Lizzie, and a very creative area with the Paper Dolls she created as gifts to cast members of her shows. Nicely done!
