From Spooked!: A Gay Ghost Hunters’s Snippits of Life—And the Afterlife
This is the same person who I wrote about here.
Remember, Rebecca, I didn’t say you were a sideshow, just that they treated you that way. Some of my favorite TV shows are Lisa Williams: Life Among the Dead, GhostHunters, Most Haunted, and Rescue Mediums.
An artist and web designer, Brandy Naugle creates woks that combine materials in a way that gives them not only a layered feel, but serve as an homage to the times in which the people lived. I rather like this one. The use of pink is especially evocative.
This doll was on sale on eBay in 2007. The artist’s blog features all of her creations. I like this one because of the materials used. She isn’t a doll that was made into Lizzie after first being created for another use. This doll was created from scratch with the outcome in mind. Tattered Rags Handmade Ragdolls.
Art is meant to provoke us, to make us think, to make us feel, to make us react in some way. Dominic Murphy’s pieces definitely do all of that. Here is his version of the Lizzie Borden story. Titled “Lizzie Borden in Us All.”

Lizzie Borden event
The Delvena Theatre Company will perform “Lizzie Borden and the 40 Whacks” in the Stevens Memorial Library’s Rotunda on Sunday, March 30, 2:30 p.m. The interactive event will depict the story of the infamous Fall River native who was acquitted of the axe murders of her parents in August of 1892. The audience will participate in a mock trial with the ability to question Borden, deciding if she’s innocent or guilty and agree on the sentence. The aim is to see if people of 2008 view the case differently than in the late 1800’s.

This is not a photo of Lizzie Borden, but as the seller acknowledges, it is a work of art that makes one think of the later brutality in a new light after looking at an innocent girl.
I support aspiring artists and especially enjoy collecting folk art pieces that are Lizzie related. Little Lizzie belongs to me now.

A recent LiveJournal entry by Jennifer Simon made me think that maybe she had some insight into Lizzie’s state of mind in 1892. Of course, it wouldn’t have been a hassle over computers and downloading, but the proximity issues combined with insecurities and communication problems would certainly add to the violent mix.
The entry is not only well written, but an eloquent psychological analysis of what it must be like to be 30 and living at home.
Lizzie Borden took an ax. . . . .
When I was growing up Lizzie Borden was my hero. She was bold, she was honest, and she did very little to cover up what she did. I can just imagine her with the police: “My mother? Oh no, she’s not my mother. She’s my step mother. Murdered you say? With an ax? Well that’s something, isn’t it.”The more I think about her, the more it feels like I can relate. She was in her thirties (which I will be, eventually) and still living with her parents (which I am, currently). And her alibi? She wasn’t killing her parents, she was in the shed binging on pears! Personally I wouldn’t eat in our shed, and I don’t binge on fruit (except rasins). Lizzie and I weren’t separated at birth but I think we would have been friends.
I’m not actually going to hurt my parents. My mom just made me extrememly angry this morning. Apparently, I download too much and that makes our internet slow. I have not done anything different. I have not been downloading more lately. I have not done anything. Yet I pretty much daily face her accusations and lectures about how I’m being inconsiderate (wtf? Get a freaking hobby mom!). She has no idea how to use the computer. Seriously! A few weeks ago I bought her a set of card games and she had to ask me how to close the program. Umm . . . . try the x button at the top right? And yet she feels justified in telling me that my usage is too much. And she decided that *we* agreed that I would never download anything ever again. HELL NO. I never agreed to that. She doesn’t pay any attention to reality. She just doesn’t.
I’m so mad at her. She just isn’t all there (and she’s getting worse with age). It’s so frustrating, I give up. Forget it! I’m just not going to talk to her anymore. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about and there’s no convincing her otherwise.

It looks like this show was in 2007 as it was uploaded to Flickr in August of last year as the “poster for our upcoming show.” Wish I coulda been there!
A visitor to Lizzie Borden’s house on 92 Second Street posted this short video of their room this morning. It is interesting to me that so many people get scared staying there. I did when I visited the house the first time in 1997! I didn’t sleep a wink.
A new Lizzie mini movie has been made by Richard Behrens and GardenBay films. It stars Shelley Dziedzic and Jill Dalton. Enjoy!!
