Lizzie Borden and Spooky Southcoast on April 6

spooky

From the Spooky Southcoast site:

Join “Spooky Southcoast” for a special “Investigators’ Night” at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast at 92 Second Street in Fall River, MA. The event will be Sunday night, April 6, 2008, and is hopefully the first of many such events.

While details are still coming together, SSC announced that a price of $75 per ticket will get investigators–as well as the general public interested in taking part in an investigation–into the very haunted house at 92 Second Street to take part in the investigation, as well as presentations given by soon-to-be-announced special guests. Keep checking back here as all the news will be announced in the coming days…

In addition, anyone wishing to rent out a room at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast for the night will get a special rate of $150 for the room! They generally go for $175 and $250, so you could save as much as $100 on the price!

So for just $300, a couple can take part in all the activities of the night before retiring to their room to (hopefully) get some sleep–if the spirits will let you! And groups can split the room amongst themselves to make it even cheaper.

“We’re doing this because we want other investigators as well as the general public to have the same opportunity that we’ve had to experience the hauntings at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast,” said Tim Weisberg, host of “Spooky Southcoast.” “We still need to ensure that owner Lee-ann Wilber, who is generously lowering the costs associated with renting out the house, can cover her expenses for the evening. So hopefully, we’ve come up with an affordable opportunity for investigators to check out Lizzie’s without having to rent out the entire house.”

“This is going to be different than the usual events they have there,” Weisberg said. “If you’d rather investigate instead of listening to the lectures and guest speakers, we welcome that. And we’ll also have special guest investigators there to help you as well. Plus, the small size of the house and the fact that we’ll have 20 people investigating at once will force groups and individuals to work together, and unity in the field of the paranormal is something we feel very strongly about.”

Due to the size of the house, the investigation is limited to only 20 people. So act now!

More details will be announced soon, as well as an opportunity to purchase tickets online. Stay tuned to Spooky Southcoast.com for PayPal/check/money order information, but anyone wishing to reserve their tickets and room should contact Tim Weisberg at tim@spookysouthcoast.com, timweisberg@hotmail.com, or at the Spooky Southcoast Myspace page.

I love folk art and original works that involve Lizzie Borden. I have some interesting things in my collection that I have found over the years. Here is one I wish I was on hand to buy when it was on sale: a hand made doll called “Tiny Lizzie Borden” by Devout Dolls.

Cute isn’t she?

“Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her father 40 whacks”…..sounds like fun to me…anyway, here is the perfect bouquet for any morbid occasion. 7 beautiful black silk roses splattered with ‘blood’ and draped in ‘bloody’ ribbons of red and black…Yum, yum! That’s not all though, there are glass and acrylic beaded adornments hanging all over to dress up the ‘bloody mess’. The stem is covered in black silk and tied with skinny ribbons to be ragged and coffin feeling. The perfect bouquet for a Goth funeral or wedding….Tranquilla’s exclusively and one of a kind from the Sable Blood Line. 14.5″ tall. I have different styles of the bouquets.

Lizzie Borden’s Cellar Visit by GardenBay Films

Check this out! Filmmaker Richard Behrens has done it again—made a Lizzie Mini film and posted in on YouTube.com.

This one stars Shelley Dziedzic as Lizzie and offers us a truly great tour of the cellar at 92 Second Street by the author of Lizzie Borden Past & Present, Leonard Rebello.

The film is fabulous! It takes us back to the evening of August 4th, 1892, when Lizzie made two trips to the cellar, one with Alice Russell, and one alone.

Curse of Lizzie Borden 2: Prom Night

Filmmaker Eric Swelstad has produced a sequel to the gross-out horror flick The Curse of Lizzie Borden, and it is due out on DVD in early 2008. Interesting that Lizzie has now become a horror icon. It was only a matter of time, I suppose.

The first film was pure camp and worth the price of disk. Once scene made me laugh so hard I literally fell off the couch and had to stop the show until I recovered. I’m not 100% sure it was supposed to make me laugh, but it sure struck me as HI-larious. So I really can’t wait for Prom Night.

Lizzie Borden and the Today Show

Posted in 6 º of Separation, Are They Crazy?, Book and Media Reviews, Borden Buzz, Fall River News, On the Web, Scary Lizzie on December 15th, 2007 by Stefani Koorey

On October 31, the Today Show aired an interview between Natalie Morales and paranormal researcher Rebecca Muller regarding various and sundry supernatural subjects—voodoo, Amityville Horror, exorcisms, and of all things, Lizzie Borden. I am not sure what Ms. Muller’s bona fides are, but she gets the Amityville story a bit wrong since the entire haunting was recanted by the Lutz’s later on. Oh well.

It is worth the watch just to see Ms. Muller keep a straight face as she tries to answer questions put to her by a costumed Morales. Sort of gives the entire subject matter a less than serious approach, don’t you think?

otislizzieIn a previous entry on Mondo Lizzie Borden, I recommended OTIS (Odd Things I’ve Seen) and his part one of a two part series about staying at the Lizzie Borden B&B. I hope you have read it as it is well worth the visit!

Part two has now been posted and you will enjoy this as much if not more than part one. Heck, read the whole blog. You’ll be happy that you did! This is a concept for a blog I wish I had thought of. Great work!

I give it my highest rating of 5 whacks!

Lizzie Borden Had an Axe

Posted in Book and Media Reviews, Borden Buzz, Case Related, Fall River News, Scary Lizzie, Unabashed Self-Promotion on November 26th, 2007 by Stefani Koorey

Title Image DiscoveryTimes cable network will be showing Lizzie Borden Had an Axe tonight, Monday, November 26, at 8PM and 11PM EST. This is the latest documentary on the case, made for the Discovery Channel a few years ago in 2004. In it you will see Detective Tom Lange (of OJ Simpson fame) and professor of criminology Tom Mauriello spray Luminol around the murder house on 92 Second Street, looking for blood evidence. Ceiling Spray They do find some blood evidence on the ceiling under the sitting room where Andrew was murdered, which is very interesting, but in the same section of the show they claim that the luminol test also shows blood evidence around a bowl in the chimney (after how many people lived there since the murders in 1892??) that may or may not be original to the house when the Bordens owned it. My favorite part continues to be the dollhouse reconstruction of the crime, and I think this part works well to show in 3-D just how the crimes were committed. Dollhouse

The site for the show is still online and shows photos from the production.

In the interest of fair reporting, I appeared in the documentary as an expert on the case and assisted the production as a consultant. Moi. If you look real close at my neck in the shots of me you might see the welts that I had from a reaction to an antibiotic I was taking at the time. The turtleneck sweater almost covered up the marks!

SPOOKY SHOWCASE: Lizzie Borden’s Bed and Breakfast owner to be featured on talk show

Lee Ann Wilber appears on “The Montel Williams Show.”

FALL RIVER — On Halloween this year, the legend of Lizzie Borden will be shared with a few million people.
Lizzie Borden’s Bed and Breakfast will shine under a national spotlight Wednesday morning on “The Montel Williams Show.”

Lizzie’s co-owner Lee Ann Wilber will talk about her own paranormal experiences at the home that was the scene of a brutal double murder more than 115 years ago. Williams’ Oct. 31 show is dedicated to haunted houses across the country.

The show, scheduled to air at 10 a.m. on Halloween, will feature such allegedly haunted places as the Hosier’s Restaurant and Carluccio’s Tivoli Gardens of Las Vegas and the Waverly Sanitorium of Louisville, Ky., along with Lizzie Borden’s.

Individuals who care for the haunted places will be interviewed about their experiences, and famed physic Sylvia Browne will also talk about the reported paranormal activity at each site.

Browne will discuss “the unexplainable noises, shadows and voices as well the rearrangement of furniture” that has been known to happen at Lizzie Borden’s, according to a press release from the show.

Wilber’s appearance on the show, taped a week ago, went by like a “blur,” she said.

“We talked about the rocking chair that moves on its own on the third floor or that moves from one side of the room to another,” said Wilber. “I also discussed the moving of shadows in the rooms and an incident when I was making the bed and I suddenly found myself on the floor sobbing.”

Wilber and Lizzie are no strangers to national attention, after filming spots for A&E, the History Channel and “Ghosthunters” in the past few years. But Wilber said “The Montel Williams Show” will strike at the heart of a whole new kind of audience.

“It was nice that I didn’t go looking for them, that they called us. It’s nice to be recognized,” said Wilber.

Tim Weisberg, co-founder of Spooky Southcoast, a weekly paranormal radio show in New Bedford, has spent numerous evenings at the Borden house, and has seen many things that he can’t explain. And each time he and his crew visit, the experiences get more intense.

“We’ve done about four to five investigations there, and the things that happened there started as simple as my legs getting lifted up off the bed but have progressed over time to wrestling with something,” said Weisberg.

Lizzie’s house psychic told Weisberg that he had caught the ire of Lizzie’s father Andrew, and now every time the group travels to the home where Andrew met his end with 10 hacks of an axe to his face, Weisberg begins to taunt him.

“It’s quite the adrenaline rush, and once it happens, you try to aggravate the situation to see if it happens again,” Weisberg said.

But its not only about the Borden murders when it comes to the home being haunted, Weisberg noted. Lizzie’s home is a haven of refuge for a number of spirits unrelated to the 1892 murder.

Michael, a former caretaker at the bed and breakfast who died accidentally a few years ago, is known to haunt the third floor. And two young children who alledgedly drowned in the Bordens’ back yard have also been known to come and go.

CGI artist Ray Keim, has a super great site called Haunted Dimensions, where he offers 3-D works of art of haunted mansions, including the Lizzie Borden house at 92 Second Street.

Read all about how he creates his 3-D projects, mansion themed graphics, paper models, and mansion illustrations. Amazing!

He also did the graphics on the Universal Orlando’s Halloween Horror Nights! I hate clowns.
