Wheaton Seminary for Women

Len Rebello, author of Lizzie Borden Past and Present, Borden historian Shelley Dziedzic and I went to Wheaton College today and conducted a lot of research on Emma Borden’s time there as a Seminary Student in the mid 1800s. The library staff was stupendous in finding all the info we could possibly need!

An extensive article on Wheaton and Emma’s time there is soon to be published in the next issue of The Hatchet: Journal of Lizzie Borden Studies. The Online journal will be full of brand new information, photos, and all sorts of amazing things about the quiet and lesser known Borden sister.

This is the second trip for me and Shelley to Wheaton, and we were honored to have Len Rebello join us to absorb all the new information.

The photo above is Len, Shelley and myself. Behind us is a painting of the lovely Caroline Cutler Plimpton Metcalf, Emma’s principal during her stay there, and probably her English grammar instructor as well. The painting is by William Page, an internationally respected artist and one of the leading exponents of figure painting among the American Romantics.

This is just a photo of me and Len Rebello. One great guy!

Calling all reviews!

Posted in Book and Media Reviews, Borden Buzz, Case Related, On the Web, Unabashed Self-Promotion on February 10th, 2007 by Stefani Koorey

We are ADDING a section to The Hatchet next issue tentatively titled “Word 4word” that will offer 200-300 word reviews of all media related to Lizzie, Victorian America, Fall River, and True Crime (yes, I am branching out). I will pay $5 per review but cannot send you the book or video to work with. I can, however, provide a list of books, magazine articles, and films that I would like to see reviewed soon. But I am totally open to items you might find along the way as well—-so just shoot the title by me for approval so we don’t have any duplication. The deadline for reviews will be the same as the deadlines above. Email me at hatchetonline (at) cfl.rr.com to submit reviews or request a list of things to write about.

USStamps.com Deems Lizzie a “Notorious Figure”

Posted in 6 º of Separation, Are They Crazy?, Borden Buzz, On the Web, Unabashed Self-Promotion on December 11th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

For the last year, I have had for sale through my CafePress Lizzie Borden sale site a set of US Postage stamps I designed for those interested in all things Lizzie. I thought them in good taste and got many compliments on them. They are in the style of Andy Warhol.

Today, CafePress wrote me a nice note. Here is the text:

Thank you for using CafePress.com! Unfortunately we have removed some of the products from your shop. Please be advised that Stamps.com does not allow images depicting notorious figures and/or criminals. Accordingly, your stamps section containing Lizzie Borden has been removed. Please feel free to visit the Stamps.com webpage to view the Terms and Conditions for further information.

If you have any quetsions or concerns, please let us know.

So Lizzie is officially designated by Stamps.com as a “notorious figure and/or criminal”—-Just thought you should make a note of that!

Live Blogging Planned

Posted in Fall River News, Unabashed Self-Promotion on August 5th, 2006 by Stefani Koorey

In two days I leave for Fall River and will be in town all week. I plan to attempt to live blog while I am there, posting interesting items and experiences as they happen. I will also upload images daily from the trip and attempt some video as well, if I can manage it.

The trip is planned around my speaking on Lizzie Borden in Popular Culture at the Fall River Public Library on Wednesday, August 9th, at 6:30PM. The library informs me that the meeting room only has seating for 75, so come early! Last year’s talk at the First Congregational Church (on Documentary Lizzie) had over 100 people attend. And boy, was it hot when they turned off the air conditioner because it was making too much noise. I don’t think anyone noticed how I melted that night. When it was over, I was drenched!

The library promises a cool environment and standing room will be available for those who arrive close to curtain.

The talk is a multi-media extravaganza! Clips, sound, images, and music, all with a dash of humor. I hope you can attend.

My blogging today and tomorrow will be minimal, but I will post both days.
