Lizzie Borden Earrings – 2 1/4 inches long
*professionally heat sealed laminate image, hypo-allergenic surgical steel ear wires with rubber ear keepers, big enough for people to stare at, but light as a feather.
On August 4, 1892, successful property developer and director of several textile mills, Andrew Borden was murdered while he napped on his parlor sofa. Mere minutes prior, his wife Abby was also brutally murdered. When investigators arrived they found both the Borden’s faces bludgeoned in with what they believe was an axe. They later found the blood soaked murder weapon in a hole in the basement with its handle broken.
In June of 1893 a murder trial was held, the accused? Borden’s own spinster daughter, Lizzie Borden. Despite evidence of a murder weapon and lack of an alibi, Lizzie Borden was found not guilty. For years after the trial she remained in Fall River until she died in 1927.
Shortly after the trial, prosecuting attorney, William H. Moody salvaged the bloody ax head found in the basement with a broken handle. As a reminder of the famous murder case he had the piece mounted and framed in a 12 x 8 x 2 inch wooden frame with a burgundy felt backing and two hanging brackets. The case is hinged and latched making it possible to open the box for a closer look. The axe head is roughly 6 inches and slightly stained with dried blood.

Lizzie Borden took an ax, and gave her mother 40 whacks – except maybe she didn’t, because A of all, it was her stepmother, and Number B, who has time for 40 full whacks in the middle of the afternoon?!
Crocheted by hand from my original pattern, this Lizzie Borden stuffie makes the perfect present for people who remain fascinated by the Lizzie Borden case, the history of Fall River, or the realm of the macabre to which the whole affair now belongs. Lizzie stands roughly 10.5 inches tall and wields an ax, which I can make bloody (with paint) or clean, as you prefer. You can also customize the color of her dress.
12×18 on 65# cover weight kraft paper
NOTE: When ordering, please specify if you would prefer the “WWLBD” poster or the “40 whacks” poster.
A tribute to Lizzie Borden. Lizzie was an American woman who was tried and acquitted in the 1892 axe murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts. Following her release from the prison in which she had been held during the trial, Borden chose to remain a resident of Fall River, Massachusetts, for the rest of her life, despite facing significant ostracism. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts elected to charge no one else with the murder of Andrew and Abby Borden; speculation about the crimes still continues more than 100 years later.
This Lizzie Borden hand painted wooden peg doll came about after one of my high school students dressed as Lizzie for Halloween. She had previously liked my peg dolls and asked me to make one of Lizzie. Although the subject was a little macabre, I was happy to oblige.
This little collectible doll would be great for the true crime or horror fan on your gift list. Love the dark side? I’d be happy to create a Jack the Ripper peg doll, which along with Lizzie would make an awesome, yet horror filled, wedding cake topper.
Lizzie is hand painted using acrylic paints on a solid wood, 3 inch high figure. She has been finished with a gloss finish which will keep her looking her bloody best for a long time to come.
I hand paint all of my figures, so your Lizzie may not look exactly like the photo, but I try my best to make all of them alike.
