1. "Exploring a fun idea"

I had this weird dream about the whole Lizzie Borden case. I thought it would be amusing to explore it here. I dreamt that Emma had set it all up, talking with Bridget before leaving. Having Bridget do the main murders, having Lizzie stay out of the way, and Emma being out of town. In order to get this done Emma promised Bridget some out of town money in the near future. Odd dream I know. Any thoughts on this? I thought it would be fun to explore.

Actually, I don't find it that odd. Emma is such a shadowy figure in the Borden drama, the only reason it seems as though any attention was thrown her way was because she had witnessed the dress burning incident.
And it is Emma who attested that she was the one who had it out for Abby more so than Lizzie. I can't see Emma getting Bridget to do the murders, but, someone else? Oh, yes! But, then Lizzie or Bridget or both would have to be in on that little scenario. Perhaps it was only Lizzie and she was afraid that the finger would be pointed at Bridget if she went out of the house to establish an alibi. So, she stayed about the house longer then she was supposed to and had to come up with her odd stories for not seeing or knowing what went on around her that day.
I think it could work.

I think after the murders everyone went out & bought new
clothes --- even Bridget & Uncle John. And of course Lizzie
got Maplecroft & seemed to enjoy her money --- but Emma didn't
seem like she did anything. It reminds me of that Brady Bunch
episode where one of the kids broke a vase(?) but would get
grounded & couldn't go on a sleepover(?) and all the other kids
confessed to the "crime" and he (Peter) didn't confess at all
and that made him look guilty. Think it could be the same with
Emma? She did it & felt guilty & didn't want to call attention
to herself?

Remember it was Emma who was regularly in touch with Uncle John, not Lizzie. If Morse had information he would have shared it with Emma. If Morse had been told by Andrew, as he testifies to, that Andrew was planning on making some charitable contributions soon, then he might have told Emma. Just in the course of their normal correspondence. The plan may have been hatched (or hatcheted as the case may be) by those two. I think we can all agree that Morse's behavoir was unusual that day, especially on the way home and his arrival.

Do people really have their family killed or kill them
for money? Even today is that really a reason people use
to do it? I just always prefer to think that when people
kill their families it is a spur of the moment act & not
something done for money. I guess I can understand murder
but not greed.

Kimberly: sadly even in today's ultra-modern cyber-toasted society one of the most prinicpal, if not THE most prinicpal, motives for parricide (murder of a loved one, father, mother, brother, sister, etc) is none other than M-O-N-E-Y...moobla, dinero, scratch, pesos.
No matter what it may be called in any country around the world -- money -- by far is the leading motivator for murder. Passion is second only to money.

by her actions after the murders, you can certainly say she was realizing new opportunites afforded by the money.

I read a book a few months ago, maybe fiction. It says most murder are done for love or money; to get it, or to keep it.
What do you think?

I think I can understand killing for love more than I can
for money. To kill a rival -- I can see that, to kill
to keep someone from "leaving"you -- I can see that. I
have never cared anything about money, never had any to
care about -- I don't see any point of being that greedy.
But I can understand being jealous & having a hot temper
and perhaphs getting so frustrated with your loved ones
that you take some of that frustration out on them. I hope
I'm not the only LBS member who will admit to having wanted
to throttle someone in my lifetime. But I have managed to
never even smack anyone before.

Kimberly, since that is one of your favorite faces you said, what does it signify to you?

Aren't most murders done for money?
Think "disgruntled employees", or drug deals, organized crime, etc.

That little furious face suits a lot of moods! I really like
to use it to express being aggravated, I guess because I can
feel myself making that face a lot of times. I also use it for confusion.
And there are times when no other smiley looks right!

The basis of the dream was just what I wrote. Emma having Bridget do the murders, in order to have an outsider I guess do it, instead of Lizzie or herself. Emma still holding contempt for her stepmother and all. Not much more then that. Odd dream, but I figured everyone would have thoughts on it.

Ya know, now that I think about it... I had a dream not all that long before getting extremely interested in the Lizzie Borden case. It was almost exactly the same as this one, but instead in the dream Bridget had a man who she had let in, who actually did the murders, because bridget didn't have the guts. Lizzie got locked in a room for just a few minutes during that dream. OK, I have odd dreams! But the one I just told was the only one where the murders actually took place in my dream.

okay. i was just wondering if you had a visual detail you were holding back. some dreams are not visually detailed but embrace an idea or a sensation.
