EMMA

Post by john »

Emma is a good starting point to truly solve the crime. Now we can argue indefinately about Emma's bone structure, or her choice of friends, or whether she liked lefse, but there is the fact that she unusually went away at the time of the murders. Now she probably was persuaded or coerced to go away by someone, because she had never gone away before. That someone would have to be Lizzie. Who else?
Is there any evidence that either Emma left hastily, or that she thought an "event" was coming?
Yes.

I'm still not completely convinced that it was unusual for Emma to go out. That would be a good starting point for me. Because there is not enough conclusive evidence to indicate whether this is true or not.

She ran away with Lizzie probably to escape the tension at home or make an alibi

Despite being mentioned somewhere, there is no evidence that Emma and Lizzie were relatives of the Brownells in Fairhaven. Therefore, if Emma was friends with Helen Brownell, she must have somehow visited from time to time, unless Helen perhaps had reason to go to Fall River.

We really don't know how Emma knew Helen, how often they saw each other, or why Emma decided to spend the summer in Fairhaven.

These guys are right, john.
In fact, I think I've heard that Emma made visits to friends either with Lizzie or without- that part I'm not sure.
If we don't know it now, there are probably people who do know.
She did go all the way to Scotland in 1906.

But besides that- she could go away for suspicious reasons this time- it doesn't depend on her usual habits right?

Did someone ask if the girls saw lawyers in other cities?
Because I think there are newspaper reports.
